A local wrestling showdown in the OHSL Freedom division saw CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt go to East Syracuse-Minoa Wednesday night and emerge with a 51-34 victory over the Spartans.
Of the seven matches contested from 106 to 145 pounds, the Brothers won six of them, including forfeits to Lucas Campbell at 106 pounds and Arsen Bagiryan at 113 pounds.
Aaron Benedict (138 pounds) and J.T. Romagnoli (145 pounds) had back-to-back pins over, respectively, Kyle Parella and Alex Travis. Lucas Rowe, at 120 pounds, gained his own pin over Jared Hanneman and Matt Lauro (132 pounds) got a 15-0 technical fall over Sam LeGro.
Mikel Wynn claimed a forfeit at 285 pounds, and CBA/J-D won two other matches. Mark Friske earned a pin over 160-pound opponent Eric Spero, while Ben Honis, at 182 pounds, shut out Alex Moss 8-0.
ESM had four pins of its own, as Alex Seamans (170) got a fall over Paul D’Antonio, Cody Loope (195 pounds) did the same to Theodore Pappas and Jon Britton (220) pinned Zach Shapiro. Jeremy Murphy, at 126 pounds, gained a pin over Muhammad Khatib.
The Spartans’ Jon Fannetti claimed a forfeit at 99 pounds, with Steve Loder beating 152-pound opponent Tucker Benedict through a major decision.
A night later, Fayetteville-Manlius beat Institute of Technology Central 35-22 for its first win within the CNY Counties League this winter.
Other than Tim Byrnes (152) beating Bernard McMillan 8-3 and pins from Jake Norton (132) and Tom Quinlan (145), the Hornets gained every point through a forfeit. Eric Mohr (106), Austin Fetrinelli (113), Luke Rufo (120) and Pat Quinlan (126) all prevailed.
