A string of six consecutive wins from 152 to 220 pounds proved the backbone for the West Genesee wrestling team’s 58-18 romp over Auburn Wednesday night in CNY Counties League action.
During that stretch, Brandon Anderson, at 152, took just 44 seconds to pin Tom Camapgnola, while Dalton Elias (182 pounds) had a 54-second pin over Bob Reynolds. Also, Matt Calascibotta (160 pounds) pinned Kyle Hunt in 1:26.
Matt Nichols, at 195 pounds, claimed a forfeit, while Evan Stefano (170 pounds) waited until late in the period, pinning Justin Koslowski with 19 seconds left. Matt Kemp won at 220 pounds, rolling past Brandon Malone 14-2.
Jon Stefano started another hot streak at 120 pounds when he beat Dustin Swan 14-7. Shortly after, Tyler Heggelke (126 pounds) pinned Zac Proulx in 3:47 and Oldae Badwan (132 pounds) finished off Pete Casper in 1:32 before Connor Grome, at 138 pounds, topped Jeff Thurston 8-4. Chris Chigaridas claimed a forfeit at 106 pounds.
Jordan-Elbridge also wrestled on Wednesday night, falling to Homer 53-15. The Eagles Ryan Hubbs pinned 182-pound opponent Andrew Schrauben in 45 seconds, while Mitch Alpha (120) pinned Jacob Cline in 1:44. Eric Gross, at 160, edged Mark Dove 8-5.
Marcellus was on the mat Thursday night, hosting Hannibal and making some inroads before falling to the Warriors 55-29.
Trailing 14-0, the Mustangs surged to the lead with three consecutive pins. Matt Dempsey, at 152 pounds, finished off Ray Bortle in 3:18, with Kevin Morrissey (160) pinning Nick Kinville in 3:52 and Ryan Long (170) getting a pin over Ricky Blais 28 seconds into the third period.
Hannibal regained control by taking four of the next five matches, the lone exception a pin by John Cavaretta (220) over Dakota Carswell in 1:23. The Mustangs would win just one more match as Zach Ruggles, at 106 pounds, took 3:28 to pin Victor Colon.
