Comatose composing
A clever musical called “A New Brain” presented by the Syracuse University Drama Department closes May 14 in the Storch Theatre at Syracuse Stage, 820 East Genesee St.
The plot focuses on an ambitious young songwriter who must have brain surgery. He fears that death will rob him of his chance to write great songs, and so – from his hospital bed, from his wheelchair, from the depths of an MRI and even while comatose – he writes them.
Written in 1998 by William Finn and James Lapine and directed here by Wendy Knox, “A New Brain” runs at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, May 11-13, and at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 14. Tickets cost $18 for adults, $16 for students and seniors; 443-3275; vpa.syr.edu/drama.
