When President Barack Obama was inaugurated Jan. 20, town of Cazenovia Supervisor Liz Moran was among the audience of possibly 1.5 million.
“When President Obama spoke, we were all spellbound and silent,” said Moran.
Moran attended the event with her husband, Marco Coronado. Moran received her tickets from Congressman John McHugh’s office via Supervisor John M. Becker (R,C,I — Sullivan), Chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. McHugh “knew of my dedication to the Obama campaign and gave two of the tickets for me and Marco to attend,” Moran said.
Though Moran and Coronado were able to enter the inauguration fairly quickly, others could not.
Debbie Holmes and David Evanciew of Cazenovia received tickets from U.S. Senator Charles Schumer last month and were promised reserved spaces in the capitol area. Though they arrived early that morning, they were still waiting in line to enter at the time of President Obama’s swearing in.
While the unprecedented enormity of the event prevented many from viewing the ceremony, it was also symbolic for supporters of the 44th president.
“When Marco and I got to our seats and saw the sea of people stretching back to the Washington monument, I could not hold back my tears,” said Moran.
