SYRACUSE – Though it was quite close the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team went to the top of the standings again during last Friday’s session of the George Constantino Memorial at SRC Arena.
The Bees’ 86 points held off challenges from West Genesee (83) and Liverpool (80) as the girls Bees, who managed 100 points, still had to settle for second place behind Liverpool’s winning 123.
A key for the B’ville boys was getting a win in the 4×400 relay where Rex Kirkegaard, Joe Saraceni, Matt Niedzialek and Chris Zellar posted three minutes 47.18 seconds to pull away from Tully’s 3:51.97.

Leading the B’ville girls Kamryn Barton won a pair of races, including a 1-2 sweep of the 300-meter dash where she won in 43.54 seconds ahead of Emerson Clavijo’s second-place 44.35.
Barton’s 3:04.25 in the 1,000 edged the 3:05.15 from Liverpool’s Kaitlyn Hotaling, while Clavijo’s 7.68 seconds in the 55-meter dash was just two-hundredths of a second behind the 7.66 of PSLA Fowler’s Shaniya Dugar.
To complete a Bees sweep of the 4×400 Aaniya Johnson, Rachel Becker, Ave Francisco and Emmy Buchanan prevailed in 4:19.03, more than six seconds clear of the field.
Yet another 1-2 finish came in the shot put, Julianna Gingrich winning with a toss of 33’7” beating out the 32’9 ¾” from teammate Leah Bahamonde.
Madelyn Donhauser stepped up for second place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:19.42. Yolanda Wei ran to fourth place in the 3,000 in 11:37.07, with Adelyn Ameigh-Coggan fourth (1:49.68) in the 600 and the Bees third in both the 4×800 and 4×200 relays. Becker took fifth in the long jump and Clare Horan sixth in the high jump.
B’ville competed during the holiday break on Dec. 28, going to Utica University for the CNY Holiday Classic and in the afternoon session finished second in the girls division to Section II’s Columbia while taking third place in the boys division.
Wei was victorious in the girls 1,500, her time of 4:59.95 the only one quicker than 5:16, right before Barton beat the field in the 800 in 2:23.65 with Horan fourth in 2:37.22. Johnson prevailed in the 300 in 42.06 seconds, more than half a second clear of the field as Mia Roberts (43.87) was fifth.
Johnson, Barton, Becker and Amerie Williams paired up for second in the 4×400 relay in 4:16.53, while Wei, Steinemann, Makayla Fowler and Nicole Sherpa helped the Bees to second in the 4×800 in 11:10.08. Gingrich earned second place in the shot put with a toss of 34’1 ½”.
Zellar nearly won the boys 300, his 36.62 seconds only trailing Columbia’s Chris Carter (36.19), with Kayden Gilbert topping 5’10” for second place in the high jump.
Decker needed 2:45.55 for third place in the 1,000 and was fifth in the triple jump (39’8 ½”) as Liam McOmber posted 4:46.60 for third place in the 1,600 and Cam Davis got third in the weight throw heaving it 48’5”.
