Hundreds of bundled-up runners and walkers enjoyed relatively warm weather for the 5th Annual Chilly Chili 5k Run/Walk on Feb. 8.
“We had a record number of runners this year. The weather always plays a role in the number of participants,” said Cindy Underriner, Cazenovia Children’s House Director of Development. “There were a lot of smiles on a lot of faces!”
Kristin White was the female overall winner with a time of 19 minutes, 12 seconds. Steven Spittler was the male overall winner with a time of 17 minutes, 12 seconds.
According to Underriner, 21 committee members and over 125 volunteers helped to make the race a success. Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Cazenovia Police Department and CAVAC were on call.
Bagpipes played by Matt Dalton announced the start of the race to the 1,116 registrants.
After the race, Cazenovia College hosted a Chili Cook-off After Party at Hubbard Dining Hall. 11 restaurants participated in the cook-off, with Toggenburg Ski Center’s Foggy Goggle Restaurant and Sports Bar taking first place.
Underriner was very pleased with the event.
“It was a successful fundraiser for the Cazenovia Children’s House and a wonderful ending to our Winterfest weekend activites,” she said.
