Kids, ignite your imagination and discover the magic of live theater. The Palace Theater is proud to present Act UP, a two-week theater camp for children ages seven to eleven years. The campers will adapt a children’s book or story into a short play, then design the set, create their costumes, and present a live public performance on the professional stage of the Palace Theater.
The two-week session starts July 6, Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and concludes with a live performance on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. The cost of the camp is $80 per person, with a $10 reduction for additional family members. The camp objectives are to introduce various theater related skills and techniques through games and activities; provide opportunity for team work, creative thinking and problem solving; promote the use of recycled materials and products found around the community, and have the campers apply their energy, experience, creativity and resources to present a short play.
Colleen Law-Tefft, a Sherburne resident and long-time thespian and theater director will lead the camp with The Palace Theater staff.
“The more we get our children involved in theater at an early age, the better the chance they will become adults who appreciate the Arts” said Law-Tefft.
“It’s a perfectly logical next step for us,” said Patricia von Mechow, Director of the Palace Theater. “As a performing arts center we present live theater with our ONStage series featuring national acts, community theater and collegiate theater. Kids should be acting up, on our stage that is. We hope this sparks a wonderful tradition with great children performances every year!”
