With the last big obstacle out of the way, the stage is clear for the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field team’s pair of clashes with Liverpool this week.
In separate events last Wednesday afternoon, the girls Northstars beat Baldwinsville 104-37 at Bragman Stadium, while the CNS boys went to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium and blew out the Bees in a 112-29 decision.
Everywhere at B’ville, the boys Northstars offered highlights, including Andy Kahl earning a clearance of 6 feet 4 inches in the high jump and tying Eric Munoz in the long jump, each going 18 feet 7 inches. Kahl went 40 feet 8 inches in the triple jump to beat Munoz (40 feet 5 inches) by three inches.
Kahl also finished second in the 400-meter dash (52.0 seconds) as teammate Tony Rogers won in 51.6 seconds. Ben Brown edged the Bees’ Sean Bernstein in the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds as Devin Young, in 23.3 seconds, beat Brown (23.5) in the 200-meter dash.
Young, Brown, Charles Haven and Brandon Marlow combined to take the 4×100 relay in 44.5 seconds, and in the 4×400 CNS had Rogers and Marlow teaming with Shaun Hyde and Jake Whritenour to win in 3:37.3.
In distance running, Nathan MacNabb went 4:31 in the mile to beat B’ville’s Seth Jackson by 2.2 seconds, and though Jackson (10:11.9) beat Chris Buchanan (10:13.6) in the 3,200, MacNabb added an 800-meter victory in 2:01.8, holding off Whritenour (2:01.1) to prevail.
Ty Howington needed 15.8 seconds to win the 110-meter high hurdles, as Andy Neumeister tore through the 400 hurdles in 1:00.6 to beat Hyde (1:02.3) in that event.
Craig Barber, in the pole vault, cleared 11 feet 6 inches as Eric Sykora cleared 11 feet. Dan Minahan and Peter Foti each threw the shot put 45 feet 6 inches, while Richie Lickfield.
Back at home, the CNS girls team got two wins from sophomore Jasmine Thompson, as she took the 100-meter high hurdles in 15.9 seconds and added a top triple jump of 34 feet 2 inches.
McKaye Neumeister achieved another double in the 400-meter dash (1:02.9) and 400-meter hurdles (1:07.4), while Taylor Wendler won the 1,500-meter run in 5:03.0 and also beat the 3,000-meter field in 11:06.2.
Thompson, Neumeister, Monique Roberts and Natalie Agosh teamed up to run the 4×100 relay in 52.4 seconds as Lauren Spink, Alicia Greco and Nicole Campagna all helped CNS win the 4×800 relay in 10:23.0. Spink, on her own, won the 800-meter run in 2:29.4.
Roberts held herself to one event, winning the high jump as she cleared 5 feet 2 inches. Alana Hotchkiss took the long jump (15 feet 7 inches), while Valerie Langevin earned a title in the discus with a toss of 96 feet 6 inches.
