Van Buren’s portion of sales tax revenue will be reduced to zero over the next couple of years leaving a gap in funding for drainage projects in Seneca Knolls.
In the past, the town has been eligible to take approximately $2.5 million dollars and has opted to take $300,000 to cover drainage improvements. With Onondaga County’s new sales tax distribution formula, the town will be eligible for approximately $825,000 in 2011, less than $100,000 in 2012 and nothing in subsequent years.
“We now have to find a new way to fund the drainage improvements,” said Van Buren Supervisor Claude Sykes.
While the bulk of the drainage projects have been completed, the town will now have to get creative with funding to ensure the drainage infrastructure remains up-to-date.
