CENTRAL NEW YORK – Three victories in sprint events by senior Kev Scott helped the West Genesee boys track and field team to a third-place finish in Wednesday’s Section III Class AA championships at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium.
It began with Scott going 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash to beat the 11.12 from Rome Free Academy’s Collin Gannon as Dylan Frost was fourth in 11.17.
Moving to the 4×100 relay, Scott and Frost, joined by Dom Burris and Chris Moser, blazed to a time of 43.75 seconds, more than a full second ahead of Corcoran’s 44.80.
Finally, in the 200-meter dash Scott needed 22.31 seconds to prevail over Nottingham’s Curtis Dennis (22.55), while Frost was seventh in 23.07.
All told, WG had 66 points, beaten only by Baldwinsville’s 163 and C-NS’s 89, a totla helped when Kevin McMahon got a dominant victory in the 3,200-meter run in 9:20.24, more than 19 seconds ahead of the field.
Burris contended in the long jump, his 21 feet 1 ½ inches behind only the 21’7” from Henninger’s Yor Yal. Logan Scott went 59.38 seconds in the 400 hurdles, second to the 58.16 from C-NS’s Sean Graves.
Moser went 52.08 in the 400-meter dash to finish fifth. WG also was fifth in the 4×800 relay in 9:28.93 and fifth in the 4×400 in 3:42.64. Dillan Holzwarth finished ninth in the 800-meter run and James Mungro ninth in the high jump.
On the girls side, WG picked up 35 points and was seventh in the 11-team field as C-NS (184 points) breezed to victory.
In the 100 sprint, Mya Rufus went 12.84 seconds, beaten only by the 12.74 from C-NS’s Jaydin Mackey as Trinity Brumfield finished eighth in 13.30.
Rufus also took fourth in the 200 in 27.02 seconds after helping Brumfield, Riley Flynn and Anna Nelson get to third in the 4×100 in 52.45.
Even better was WG’s 4×200 relay quartet of Claire Griffin, Chloe Feitze, Andrea Conklin and Sarah Fettig, who in 4:12.60 was less than a second behind B’ville’s winning 4:12.09.
The Wildcats were fifth in the 4×800 in 10:36.25 as Claire Griffin took ninth in the 1,500 in 5:12.86, with Thalia Petrie sixth and Lily Pelegrino eighth in the 2,000 steeplechase, Zoe Maupin ninth and Erin Fortune 10th in the 800 and Shannon McMahon 10th in the 3,000.
Jordan-Elbridge competed in the Class C-1 sectional meet Tuesday at Little Falls, finishing ninth on the boys side and tied for 10th on the girls side.
David Lawless, in the boys 100 sprint, was second in 11.78 seconds to the 11.40 from Pulaski’s Aaron McConnell, adding a fourth in the 400 sprint in 53.60. Peyton Bates was third and Alex Kunz fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase and Roanan Ross sixth in the shot put.
Teagan Disinger was fourth in the 100 hurdles, with Emily Riley fourth in the 100 sprint in 13.49 seconds. Riley, Disinger, Kyra Dominick and Avery Yard third in the 4×100 in 53.37. Abby Bates got fifth in the 2,000 steeplecahse and Dominick took sixth in the 200.
