6CENTRAL NEW YORK – What started in the regular season has continued for the Cazenovia boys track and field team as the post-season got underway.
Earning 229 points, the Lakers nearly lapped the field at Monday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty Small School Championships at Marcellus, with Skaneateles second by earning 118 points.
Branden McColm went 1,600 meters in four minutes, 50.30 seconds and went 1-2 with Will Austin (4:53.75), and would also prevail in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, going 11:05.37 to pull away. In the 800, McColm was second in 2:08.53, beaten by Jaden Kaplan’s winning 2:07.02.
Connor Frisbie won multiple events, going 16.88 seconds to take the 110 high hurdle as Sean Wilcox was third in 17.72, while also winning the triple jump by going 40 feet 9 inches, Wyatt Scott third in 37’6 1/4″. In the long jump, Frisbie was second with 19’1 1/4″, just 1/4 of an inch behind Skaneateles’ Max Paciorek (19’1 1/2″), with Braden Carnahan fifth at 18’6 1/4″.
Kaplan returned in the 4×400 relay helping Dan Raymond, Eliot Comeau and Tristian Field-Bradley take the 4×400 relay in 3:40.61, beating the field by nearly seven seconds.
J.P. Hoak would go 11.86 seconds in the 100-meter dash to edge Marcellus’ Andrew McCaffrey (11.90), with Finn Worthington fourth in 12.24. Then, in the 400-meter dash, Raymond prevailed in 52.49, Comeau taking third in 53.97 and Tristan Field-Bradley fifth in 54.92 as Hoak was second in the 200-meter dash in 24.20 seconds, with Worthington (24.82) sixth.
McColm, Austin, Caleb Gilmore and J.D. Dolly prevailed in the 4×800 relay in 8:47.54, beating out Phoenix (8:51.61). Hoak, Worthington, Wyatt Scott and Charlie Compeau were third in the 4×100 relay in 47.25 seconds.
Killian Blouin was second in the pole vault with 10’6″ to McCaffrey’s 11 feet as Gilmore (8’6″) was seventh. Comeau topped 5’8″in the high jump, second to Skaneateles’ Max Paciorek (5’10”) as Frisbie was fourth, Sam Wilcox throwing the discus 111’6″ for second place to Skaneateles’ Will Feeney (119’9″) as Aidan Bailey was eighth.
Will Schimer went 1:05.88 for second place in the 400 hurdles as Gabe Sanchez got sixth place in 1:08.49. Owen Woodworth picked up 1,740 points for fourth place in the pentathlon, with Hoak sixth in the shot put with 35’9″. Jake Woolbert, in 11:09.34, edged out Chris Kelly (11:09.70) for third in the 3,200-meter run.
As this was going on, Chittenango hosted the large-school version of the OHSL Liberty meet and nearly won it on the boys side, getting 133 points to take second to Institute of Technology Central’s 136. The girls Bears were also second, with 94 points, though well back of Westhill’s winning 277.
Caleb LeBlanc prevailed twice as, in the 1,600, his 4:35.04 was just ahead of Westhill’s Drew O’Reilly (4:37.65), and LeBlanc would also take the 800 in 1:58.76, the only time under two minutes, while also running to fourth place in the 3,200.
Joseph Lin went 20’3 1/4″ for second in the long jump and was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.70 seconds, with Connor Brooks fourth, while in the 400 hurdles Lin went 58.80 seconds, a close second to the 58.72 from Westhill’s Owen Mulholland. Lin added a fifth in the high jump.
LeBlanc paired with Jacob Scheidelman, Landon Parks and Sean Eiffe to win the 4×400 in 3:36.56 to ITC’s 3:37.73, while Quentin Mohamed was victorious in the pentathlon with 2,090 points. Eiffe added a second-place shot put toss of 39’5 1/2″.
Parks was second in the 400 sprint in 54.01 seconds and fourth in the 200 as the Bears were second in the 4×800 in 9:08.45 and third in the 4×100. Ganon Catlin was third and Matt Byrne fourth in the steeplechase as Drew Toner took third and Trevor Cole fourth in the pole vault, both clearing 8’6″, and Roger Mulholland throwing the discus 110’2″ for fourth place.
Laura Powers won for the Chittenango girls in the 3,000-meter run in 11:33.48, with Ava McLean in fourth place as Powers took second in the 1,500 in 5:23.71, edging Natalie DiGennaro (5:24.63) in third.
In the long jump, Jordan Wagner went 16’6″ to beat the 16’1″ from Homer’s Camdyn Cole. Sophia DiGennaro went 2:28.98 in the 800 for third place and helped the Bears take second in the 4×400 in 4:24.71.
Chittenango added a second in the 4×800 in 10:53.92 and a fourth in the 4×100. Allie Bartoszek got fourth in the 100 hurdles, Jordan Wagner fourth in the 200 and Hannah Wagner fifth in the 100 sprint.
Mariah Stewart got third place in the pentathlon with 1,654 points, with Olivia Jackson third in the discus (78’9″) and fourth in the shot put.
