The Marcellus Free Library (MFL) recently announced its upcoming fundraiser on Saturday, June 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the newly constructed amphitheater area.
This fundraiser will mark the unveiling of the library’s new outdoor space and involve family-friendly fun, including food trucks, live music, face painting, and more.
The construction of the amphitheater was made possible by the NYS Library Construction Aid Grant awarded to the library 2022.
The amphitheater and the new, adjoining Robert and Jane Amidon Memorial Park mark the end of the Nine Mile Creek Walk.
Former Marcellus Free Library Director Jake Widrick, along with the board of trustees, were instrumental in securing this grant.
“Even pre-pandemic we had identified a need for additional programming space,” said Widrick. “When the pandemic did hit it became clear that the library could solve its need for additional programming space while also providing the community a much-needed outdoor gathering spot for safely distanced get-togethers and collaboration. MFL is fortunate to have Nine Mile Creek running through its back yard and this project also gives the community an opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the creek in a safe, relaxed environment.”
Kathryn Dennis, current president of the library’s board of trustees, echoed Widrick’s sentiments and predicts a future of exciting new possibilities for the MFL.
“Whether attending an outdoor evening jazz concert, a children’s programming event, or reading a book quietly in the gazebo, we hope these spaces offer a unique experience, and bring the Marcellus Community together on June 10th and for many years to come,” she said.
Attendees will be able to enjoy food and drinks from Cam’s Pizza, Riseform Brewery, and Muzzi’s d’italia Ice. Tickets for food and drink will be available at the event.
Free entertainment will include Mega Bubble Man, face painting, glitter tattoos, and live music from Tim Forbes.
The MFL’s mission is to meet the community’s educational and recreational needs and to promote lifelong learning.
Proceeds from the June Amphitheater Reveal and Fundraiser will go towards future library programs and services for all ages.
