CENTRAL NEW YORK – Area high school girls golf teams had a perfect week of summer-like conditions in which to complete their preparations for the 2023 season.
And then the temperatures plunged just in time for last Monday’s season openers, which included impressive wins by Fayetteville-Manlius Green and Christian Brothers Academy.
F-M Green went to Hickory Hills and topped Liverpool 190-210, led by Gabby Dardis, who shot a nine-hole 44 as she and Bella Fullmer, with a 46, beat out the 47 from Liverpool’s Jewelyana Daniels.
Alana Isley and Lindsey Chong had matching totals of 50, while Erin Graves had a 51 and Lucia Melfi finished with a 52.
Three days later, F-M Green handled Cicero-North Syracuse Green 181-257 as, again, Dardis had the low round, a 41 supported by a 46 from Fullmer and twin 47s from Isley and Elizabeth Noel.
As for CBA, it handled Marcellus 186-222 at Tuscarora with a great performance by Grace Catalano, whose 37 nearly matched par in cold, wet conditions.
Hana Kang finished second with a 45, beating the 49 from the Mustangs’ top performer, Allison Coombs. Anna Fuller finished with a 51 and Meredith Sommers added a 53.
A 177-272 romp over Westhill followed on Thursday, this time with Kang shooting a 41, Catalano a 42 and Fuller a 44, all of them well clear of Sommers’ 57.
In a three-team match on Friday, CBA shot 188 to a 242 for Manlius Pebble Hill and 260 for Chittenango.
Individually, top honors went to the Trojans’ Amitees Fazeli, who shot a 42. However, CBA’s depth was on display again as Catalano shot a 43 and Kang added a 41.
This happened as F-M’s White team lost, 176-212, to C-NS Blue at Green Lakes. Emily Pollard had a 49, with Melissa Continelli and Katherine Parmley both posting 53 as Jessica Riccairdi (40) led the Northstars.
MPH opened last Tuesday with a 220-240 defeat to Cazenovia at the Links at Erie Village, though Fazeli’s impressive 43 topped the low round of 49 from the Lakers’ Grace Probe.
Bishop Grimes met Westhill on Friday and lost, 217-255, but got an individual victory from Ashley Ince, whose 47 beat out the 48 from Westhill’s Charlotte Roth. Gianna DiNiro shot a 65 for the Cobras.
In boys golf, MPH opened last Wednesday with a tight 258-259 defeat to Weedsport. James Wildhack’s 46 trailed the twin 44s from Weedsport’s Logan Jedra and Jack Lowery as Dash Goode shot 48, Owen Sacks had a 51 and Nathaniel Orsen (55) beat out Andy Wladis (59) for the Trojans.
Bishop Grimes, meanwhile, lost 227-277 to Marcellus last Thursday, with Dom Kensey shooting a 49, Brandon Stevens a 51 and Tom Kolodzie a 54, all of them behind a top-four Mustangs sweep led by Will Glass and Ben Reome, who both finished at 43.
