CENTRAL NEW YORK – It wasn’t until the end of last week that conditions for area high school track and field teams returned somewhat to what they were the week before.
West Genesee was able to compete last Thursday against Cicero-North Syracuse and Henninger, and the boys Wildcats got a sweep, edging the Northstars 73-68 while handling the Black Knights 115-25.
Dom Burris had a memorable meet. He won the triple jump by going 39 feet ¼ inch and added a top long jump of 19’8” while, in the 200-meter dash, finishing in a dead heat with teammate Kev Scott, each posting 22.64 seconds.
Meanwhile, Peter McMahon was first in the 800-meter run in 2:06.46 and the 1,600-meter run in 4:30.68, Kevin Moser adding a 3,200-meter title in 10:05.30 as Chris Moser went 11.48 seconds to beat the field in the 100-meter dash.
At the same time, WG’s girls could not get in the win column, falling 67-65 in a close meet with Henninger and overwhelmed by C-NS 104-37.
Still, the Wildcats’ Da’Mya Rufus was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 12.97 seconds and, with Sarah Fettig, Anna Nelson and Zaida Talev, claimed the 4×100 relay in 52.52.
Jordan-Elbridge took part in a three-team OHSL Patriot division meet and won both sides of it, beating Bishop Ludden 81-23 and routing Mater Dei Academy 84-11.
Ludden would later join Westhill, Skaneateles and Solvay taking part Saturday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s “Just an Old School” Invitational before all of them returned to league action this week.
For the Skaneateles girls, Kyla Palmer and Lucy Fleckenstein each won twice, Palmer going 25.07 seconds to dominate the 200 after she went 58.02 in the 400 sprint.
Fleckenstein was first in the 1,500 in 5:16.8 and then beat the field in the 800 in 2:28.01 as Tobi DiRubbo was third in 2:33.07. Maddie Wright added a victory in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.
On the boys side, Skaneateles got a win from Aidan Ward, who posted a top time of 11:28.9 in the 3,000 steeplechase beating, among others, teammate Michael Galbato, who posted 12:38.3.
More followed as the Lakers had Will Feeney throw the shot put 48’4” to lap the field and Henry Thompson did the same with a winning discus throw of 113’1”. Paciorek got second in the long jump with19’1 1/2”.
As for Westhill, Emma Murphy pulled away in the 100 hurdles to win in 16.4 seconds, while Mary Kate Rewakowski (8 feet) and Mallie Alt (7 feet) were 1-2 in the pole vault, with Ava Baty fourth.
Isabel Young took second in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.07 as Ludden’s Lexi Sheen (1:12.04) was third, Isabel Leonardo getting third in the 400 and Jael Hill throwing the shot put 29 feet for a runner-up finish.
Westhill’s Andrew O’Reilly, in a time of 2:09.40, edged CBA’s Kyle Gaffney (2:09.70) to take the boys 800 as teammate Owen Muholland was second (23.6 seconds) and the Lakers’ Max Paciorek third (23.9) in the 200.
