Despite several individual highlights, the Liverpool wrestling team found itself behind in much of last Tuesday’s meet against West Genesee, taking a 39-23 loss to the Wildcats in Camillus.
The Warriors found a lot of success in the upper weight classes. Derek Eason had the most impressive showing, at 160 pounds, beating Sean Clary in a 17-0 technical fall.
Mike Reed worked hard at 215 pounds for a 5-3 decision over Pete Schoeneck, while Jon Miller claimed a forfeit at 189 pounds. Justin Thompson, working at 130 pounds, earned a 7-3 decision over Jon Fetterolf.
Otherwise, the Wildcats won every match, including a close 152-pound battle where Matt Hathaway lost to Josh Cruz 8-5. Also, Joe Rizzuto got involved in an active 171-pound match, falling to Nick Marco 20-12.
Beginning on Monday, Liverpool works in the two-day Brett Dixon Memorial Tournament at Central Square, the prelude to a Jan. 7 showdown with archrival Cicero-North Syracuse.
