Stephanie A. Smith, 23, of Ilion, was charged with disorderly conduct on the Thruway by New York State Police Sept. 26
Smith was a passenger in a Morrisville College van and a member of the field hockey team.
Smith was sitting in the front seat and held up a sign which read, “Help I’ve been kidnapped,” and placed medical tape over her mouth, state police said. According to state police, two vans were traveling together on Thruway and playing jokes as they passed each other.
When other drivers saw the girl and her sign, they called 911.
Both vans were stopped and Smith was charged with disorderly conduct. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of Junius court at 7 p.m. Oct. 6.
