SKANEATELES — The Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center will host the next session of LiveStrong starting Sept. 12.
LiveStrong at the YMCA is a 12-week small-group fitness program for adult cancer survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. The program is for any adult who is currently going through cancer treatment or has gone through some form of cancer treatment in the past and wants to regain their health and well-being.
The program will meet twice a week for 12 weeks at no cost to the participant. Each member works at their own level alongside other survivors while focusing on regaining stamina and strength that might have been lost during treatment. In order to participate in the LiveStrong at the Y program, medical clearance and a full health history intake must be completed.
As we go through our 12 weeks together, we help create a bigger picture of health and wellness to carry on beyond the program. This program includes a Subsidized 12-week YMCA Family Membership, two 75-minute classes per week. Sessions are a combination of individual instruction and group activities with workouts that include cardiovascular exercise, strength training, stretching & balance work. Participants will also receive full access to the Skaneateles and Auburn YMCA’s.
The goals of our program are to improve energy and self-esteem, build muscular strength and endurance, improve flexibility and restore balance, improve circulation and functional ability to complete everyday tasks, Reduce the severity of therapy side effects, improve body image, reduce stress levels and build supportive relationships in a comfortable and safe environment
