LIVERPOOL – Just as it had tried to do all spring, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team attempted to track down Cicero-North Syracuse during Thursday’s Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division championships at Liverpool.
And the Hornets picked up 158 points, but just finished behind the Northstars’ total of 175 as the F-M boys also finished second at the league meet, though its 106 points were well back of Baldwinsville’s 183.
Again doing well in distance races, F-M had its 4×800 team of Isabella Adrian, Amelia Amack, Maria Khalifeh and Debbie Lucchetti roar to a time of nine minutes, 48.72 seconds to C-NS’s 9:59.86.
Izzie Sullivan was victorious in the 3,000-meter run in 9:57.36, while Amack was third in 10:12.28. Natalee Barber emerged with a win in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.76 seconds as no one else broke the 16-second mark.
Hannah Kaercher, meanwhile, finished second in the 800 in 2:18.48 to C-NS’s Kate Putman (2:12.78) as Sullivan was third in 2:23.09, with Kaercher’s 1:01.92 in the 400-meter dash topped by the 59.76 from the Northstars’ Hannah Boyle and her time of 4:35.90 in the 1,500-meter run behind Putman’s 4:29.43, with Sullivan (4:40.77) again third.
Lucchetti ran the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:49.76, nearly 10 seconds clear of the field. And Kaercher did win when she paired with Adrian, Khalifeh and Maya McKenzie to take the 4×400 relay in a time of 4:12.09.
Brigid Teaken held on in the five-event pentathlon, her score of 2,198 points just enough as the Northstars’ Shannon Brown got second with 2,177.
Wren Usiatynski gave F-M its lone win in field events, clearing 11 feet 6 inches to take the pole vault as no one else could go beyond 10’3”.
In the 4×100, F-M nearly won it, with McKenzie, Usiatynski, Natalee Barber and Brennan Jolly going 52.63 seconds, edged by the 52.60 from C-NS.
McKenzie was a close second (13.10 seconds) to C-NS’s Jaydin Mackey (12.99 in the 100-meter dash, also finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.59 as Natalee Barber was sixth. Adrian took third in the 400 hurdles in 1:10 flat.
Barber finished third in the long jump, going 15’7 1/4” with Maddie Kirkpatrick going 79’7” for third place in the discus and also third in the shot put with 29’7 1/2”. Elizabeth Bansbach was sixth in the high jump, topping 4’4”.
F-M’s boys team saw Connor Ball tear to a top time of 58.56 seconds in the 400 hurdles the only time under a minute, while Nolan McGinn rolled to a winning time of 9:44.65 in the 3,200-meter run as no one else broke the 10-minute mark. McGinn, Ben Perry, Will Seamans and Anthony Otis prevailed in the 4×800 in 8:12.98.
Seamans was third in the 800 in 2:04.17, with Perry fourth in 2:05.36, and in the 1,600 Seamans again got third place in 4:30.40, inches ahead of McGinn’s 4:30.45.
The Hornets’ 1-2 finish in the high jump featured Trevor Krukin clearing 5’10” with fewer misses than teammate Denim Hall, who settled for second place. Krukin also was fourth in the 400 sprint in 53.49 seconds.
Cooper Dereszynski earned 2,362 points to get second place in the pentathlon. Daniel Patrick rose to second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:24.61. Hall, Krukin Seamans and Ball were third in the 4×400 in 3:38.87, with the Hornets fifth in the 4×100.
Ball also had a fourth-place long jump of 19’1 1/2” as Jackson Burton (18’4 1/2”) was sixth, with Ball taking sixth in the 110 high hurdles. Dan Kenny was fifth in the discus, heaving it 101’8” to go with a ninth in the shot put. Jackson Brown cleared 8’6” for fifth place in the pole vault.
Christian Brothers Academy finished sixth in both sides of the OHSL Liberty division large-school meet held Friday in Chittenango, but did have some winning efforts.
Darien Williams won the boys 100 in 11.32 seconds as Sayir Torrence (11.45) was third. Williams, Torrence, Remir Ratchford and Damien Williams teamed to take the 4×100 in 44.63 seconds.
Kyle Gaffney needed 2:05.03 to take second place in the 800, while Aiden Duggan was third in the 400 and Ratchford was fifth in the triple jump.
On the girls side, Grace Fletcher took the 400 sprint in 59.92 seconds, with Claire Krueger second in the 800 in 2:33.08. Amazin Spencer was second in the 100 sprint in 13.21 seconds and third in the 200 (27.77) behind Fletcher’s second-place 26.95. Mary Sullivan was third in the steeplechase and Ella Zaryski took fifth in the 1,500.
