ONONDAGA COUNTY – Two more big obstacles stood in the way of the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team and a clean sweep of every one of its Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division rivals.
Fayetteville-Manlius arrived last Tuesday to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, only to once again fall victim to the relentless all-around effort from the state Class A no. 4-ranked Bees, who rolled to a 14-8 victory.
They had met April 21 at F-M an d B’ville had won that game 16-8. Little changed in the rematch, with the Bees maneuvering its way in front 3-1 by the end of the first quarter.
The margin grew to 7-4 by halftime, but once again B’ville seemed to save its best work for the third quarter, where it put together a 5-1 push to thwart any idea of a Hornets comeback.
On the Bees’ top line, Trey Ordway scored four times, with Carson Dyl getting three goals and two assists. Both benefited from passes by Keegan Lynch, who amassed five assists to go with his pair of goals.
Ryan Hollenbeck also converted twice, with Tom Nocevski adding a goal. Jacob Czyz handled face-offs well and earned two assists, with Austin McClintic getting one assist. Robert Madden led F-M with four goals and one assist.
At Liverpool two nights later, B’ville once again found itself challenged by the Warriors, just as in the first meeting April 26 where it was tied at halftime before the Bees won it 15-10.
Here, Liverpool was a bit more stingy, but the result was exactly the same, B’ville taking it 13-8 as long-stick midfielder Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson led the way, both with sound defense and contributing a pair of goals.
To conclude the regular season, B’ville traveled to Jamesville-DeWitt on Saturday and put up yet another fine all-around effort, handling the Red Rams 16-6.
By its own standards, J-D, at 9-4, had struggled plenty this spring, but even with that what the Bees did in the first half was quite impressive as it roared out to an 11-2 advantage.
Czyz won 14 of 16 face-offs to set the tone, and things nicely spread out from there, with six multiple goal scorers and Hollenbeck at the forefront with his four tallies.
Lynch scored twice and got three assists, with Czyz, Dyl, Ordway and Penafather-Stevenson also getting a pair of goals. Caden Cox, Anthony Menickeli and Ryan Quin scored, too, Quinn adding an assist.
Cary played the entire game in the net, recording seven saves. He is likely to play full games in the upcoming post-season after splitting time with Mason Clark this spring.
B’ville takes a 14-1 record into the Section III Class A playoffs, heavily favored since it beat both of its main challengers, C-NS and Liverpool, twice in the regular season.
