BALDWINSVILLE – Many of the area’s top large-school track and field teams found themselves at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium Friday for the Baldwinsville John Arcaro Classic.
That included Fayetteville-Manlius, Jamesville-DeWitt and East Syracuse Minoa, who would each post strong finishes in the boys and girls meets.
F-M had 60 points on the boys side for third place and 54 points on the girls side to tie for fifth place, while the J-D boys took sixth place with 44 points and ESM’s girls team, competing for the third time in five days, got third place with 55 points.
Connor Ball won for the boys Hornets in the 400-meter hurdles, posting 57.93 seconds, the only time under a minute. Then Will Seamans and Nolan McGinn went 1-2 in the 1,600-meter run, Seamans prevailing in 4:24.54 to edge McGinn’s 4:24.74.
Trevor Krukin was third in the 800-meter run in 2:03.87 ahead of Ben Perry (2:05.32) in fourth place. Krukin, Seamans, Denim Hall and Ethan Terkowitz took second in the 4×400 relay in 3:36.92, with the Hornets fourth in the 4×100 relay in 45.70 seconds. Hall had a third-place high jump of 5’10”.
To lead the ESM girls, Sophia Jackson was victorious in the discus, her throw of 99 feet 5 inches nearly 12 feet ahead of the rest of the field as F-M’s Maddie Kirkpatrick was sixth. Margaret Mading added a second-place triple jump of 34’3 1/4″.
Akuot Kuany, ESM’s school-record holder in the 100 hurdles, finished second in 15.84 seconds, with teammate Arianna Brennen fourth (17.06) and F-M’s Natalee Barber (16.36) between them in third place.
Then, in the high jump, Kuany cleared 5’4″ to again take second place. Amber Hayes went 1:12.83 in the 400 hurdles to take second place for ESM as Aryanna Finkelstein threw the shot put 31’3 for fourth place.
The F-M girls swept the top spots in the 3,000-meter run, Hannah Kaercher prevailing in 9:44.44 as Izzie Sullivan took second in 9:46.67.
Debbie Lucchetti won the girls 2,000 steeplechase in 7:39.46, holding off the 7:41.05 from ESM’s Rachael Ladd. Amelia Amack took third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:51.67, with Isabella Adrian fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.50 and sixth in the 800-meter run.
Wren Usiatynski topped 10’6″ for third place in the pole vault, while Maya McKenzie got fifth (27.07 seconds) in the 200-meter dash.
Winning for J-D’s boys in the 110 high hurdles, Nick Dekaney posted 14.97 seconds, with ESM’s Jay-Neil McDuffie fourth in 16.87. Alex Martinez finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 9:49.05.
Ashton Corona made it to second place in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:53.54 as Max MacCaull got third in the 100-meter dash in 11.48 seconds, edging the 11.54 from ESM star Michael Parks. Caleb Smith had a fifth-place triple jump of 37’9″.
Sam Smith, James Hillers, Connor Clarkson and Hudson Groat took second in the 4×800 relay in 8:21.79, with F-M (8:47.76) in fourth place as Shane Gargiulo was sixth in the 400 hurdles, with George Grigorian sixth in the shot put.
J-D’s girls had Brooke Hulbert finish sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.30, with Victoria Payne seventh in the 100 sprint as the Rams rose to fourth in the 4×100 relay in 52.93 seconds and Hailey Webber was sixth in the shot put. ESM’s Luke Mancini got sixth place in the pole vault, clearing 10’6″.
Christian Brothers Academy had Damien Williams win the 200 in 23.02 seconds, beating a field that included ESM’s Aidan Hirt (23.53) in fourth place, this after Williams was fifth in the 100 in 11.56. Michael McMahon was fifth in the 3,200 in 10:07.22.
ESM’s star duo of Parks and Rocky El went to Saturday’s Glenn D. Loucks Games in Poughkeepsie and went 1-2 in qualifying for the the final of the 110 high hurdles. Then Parks took the championship in 14.42 seconds as El was third in 15.01, El also reaching the 100-meter dash final where he finished eighth in 11.43 seconds, having qualified in 11.22.
All of this followed a Wednesday sweep of Auburn and Central Square where both ESM teams were able to clinch their respective SCAC Empire division regular-season titles with undefeated marks.
El stood out with three victories as he had a top triple jump of 43’6″, ran the 100 in 11.7 seconds and went 16.8 seconds to take first in the 110 high hurdles.
El also paired with Aidan Hirt, D’Angelo Withers and Dan Tovar to take the 4×100 relay in 45.3 seconds as Joseph Pedrosa-Garcia went to the 400 hurdles and prevailed in 1:04.9. Ryan Sullivan cleared 5’4” to win the high jump as Central Square’s Brett Fehrman provided a highlight when he cleared 13’6” in the pole vault.
The combination of Kuany’s versatility and domination in field events proved enough for the girls Spartans as Kuany, the school record in the 100 hurdles, won that event in 15.7 seconds to go with a top long jump of 15’8 3/4”.
Rhiannon Butchko cleared 5’2” to prevail in the high jump, with Finkelstein throwing the shot put 31’11” and Mading getting a top triple jump of 33’4 1/2”. Hayes took first in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.6 and Elena Vespi was first in the 800-meter run in 2:47.5, the pair teaming with Adriana Pena and Rebecca Sergeant to go 4:28.9 in the 4×400 relay.
Central Square had Alyssa Costello sweep all three sprints – the 100, 200 and 400 – while Evelyn Dolce cleared 12’3” to win the pole vault.
