ONONDAGA COUNTY – Warm, sunny weather greeted the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool track and field teams as they squared off against one another Wednesday afternoon at Bragman Stadium.
And both sides of it would go in the Northstars’ favor as it won 83-48 on the boys side and 84-57 in the girls meet, with both teams able to sweep the third side at the meet, Henninger.
Carlton Garnes led the C-NS boys, going 15.68 seconds to win the 110 high hurdles and then earning a top triple jump of 40 feet, also helping Liam Adams, Trevon Walker and Andrew Vinette take the 4×100 relay in 45.20 seconds. Sean Graves was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.03.
Dante Melfi joined in by winning the 800-meter run in 2:11.82 and the 1,600-meter run in 4:44.42. Gavin McAllister cleared 9’6” in the pole vault and, with Dan Henry, Jake Trubia and James McConnell, went 3:39.03 in the 4×400 relay.
Liverpool’s Ryan Hagan tore to a time of 51.36 seconds in the 400-meter dash and went 10:10.36 at 3,200 meters, pairing with Ian Sherlock, Austin Ziegler and Jacob Makhlouf to go 8:49 flat in the 4×800 relay. Also for the Warriors, Joe Guindy threw the discus 107’10” and Ny’Quez Madison had a top long jump of 20’5”.
In the girls meet, the Warriors picked up more points, but C-NS won most of the events head-to-head, including multiple tiitles from Hannah Boyle, Lilly Capria, Danielle Crivelli, Jaydin Mackey and Cha’Nya Jones.
Boyle went 1:00.54 in the 400 sprint and ran 3,000 meters in 10 minutes, while Capria topped 5 feet in the high jump and went 16’1 1/2” in the long jump.
Mackey won the 100 sprint in 12.80 seconds and the 200 in 26.44. Crivelli, after taking first in the 100 hurdles in 16.61, put up a top triple jump of 32’8”. Jones swept the throwing events, going 32’6” in the shot put and 92’2” in the discus.
Kaleigh Bosimenu topped 8 feet in the pole vault as Kate Putman, Allison Moran, Cameron Sisk and Elliana Balagh went 13:10 in the 4×800 relay. Liverpool’s Taylor Page won the 800 in 2:28.73 and, with Lena Young, Addison Burt and Sophie Hoy, took the 4×400 relay in 4:28.10.
Two days earlier, the Liverpool girls had earned a victory at the East Syracuse Minoa Invitational, needing 134 points to hold off the host Spartans (132) for the top spot.
A key event was 4×100 relay, where the Warriors’ quartet of Mikayla Greene, Janea Hamilton-Brown, Sophia Jarosz and Mia Wright went 51.15 seconds to edge ESM (52.24), a two-point difference.
Jarosz added a third in the 200 in 27.36 seconds and completed a relay sweep when she, along with Kaitlyn Burt, Emily Aiello and Lena Yung, won the 4×400 in 4:20.52, edging the 4:20.94 from Jamesville-DeWitt.
Liverpool also went 1-2 in the 3,000, Meghan Moyer prevailing in 11:33.49 and Addison Miles second in 11:55.67, while Page was victorious in the 1,500 in 5:09.88 as Moyer (5:23.31) was third.
Beatrize Gurgol was second (17.76 seconds) and Anahrie Anderson third (18.41) in the 100 hurdles. Burt took second in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.45, with Gurgol third in the long jump (15’5”) and fourth in the high jump.
Lena Young was third in the 400 sprint in 1:05.28 as Addison Ziegler took fourth in the 800, but helped Page, Charlotte Warner and Eva Woodworth win the 4×800 in 10:57.57. Kaleigh Buck was fourth and Warner fifth in the 2,000 steeplechase.
Hamilton-Brown had a second-lace shot put toss of 31’1”. Layla Pearl Collins cleared 7’6” for third place in the pole vault. Natalie Venesky finished sixth in the pentathlon.
On the boys side, Hagan won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:25.7 as no other runner even broke the 11-minute mark. Malkouf was second in the 800 in 2:04.84, with Guindy third in the discus (109’7”)and fourth in the shot put (38’5) and Colin Gridley fourth in the 400 hurdles.
