CAZENOVIA — U.S. News & World Report has named Cazenovia High School (CHS) the top public high school in the Syracuse metro area.
According to the 2022 Best High Schools rankings, announced April 26, CHS was also the 76th best high school in New York State and the 727th in the nation.
Also listed in the top 10 schools in the Syracuse area were Fayetteville-Manlius Senior High School, Jamesville-Dewitt High School, Skaneateles Senior High School, Fabius-Pompey Middle School High School, Marcellus High School, Hamilton Junior-Senior High School, Chittenango High School, Tully Junior-Senior High School, and Westhill High School, in descending order.
In coordination with RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, U.S. News ranked 17,843 public high schools nationally and 1,212 schools in New York.
The methodology focused on six factors: college readiness (30 percent), state assessment proficiency (20 percent), state assessment performance (20 percent), underserved student performance (10 percent), college curriculum breadth (10 percent), and graduation rate (10 percent).
U.S. News awarded CHS an overall score of 95.93/100, highlighting the following statistics on the school’s “scorecard:” 70 percent of students took at least one AP Exam, 60 percent passed at least one AP Exam, 96 percent mathematics proficiency, 96 percent reading proficiency, 89 percent science proficiency, and 96 percent graduation rate.
“We are very proud of our students and their hard work,” said Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio. “We want to thank all of our faculty, staff and families. This is a testament to how our school community works together in the best interest of kids.”
