CENTRAL NEW YORK – First place in the SCAC Metro division was at stake last Friday when the Fayetteville-Manlius Green girls golf team took on Baldwinsville at Timber Banks.
Prior to that, though, it was F-M’s younger White squad that went to Timber Banks on Thursday and handed the Bees its first defeat of the season in a 220-228 decision.
Anna Li led the Hornets, shooting a 51 for nine holes, while Sydney Hines and Erin Pollard each posted 54 to match B’ville’s low round by Alexandra Cavino. Then Lucia Melfi’s 61 helped clinch the match.
When it was F-M Green’s turn on Friday, and it handled B’ville 194-230 with steady efforts from its top golfers.
Heirut Miller led with a 49, while Alana Isley and Elizabeth Noel both shot 50, one ahead of the Bees’ low round from Gloria Metallo. Then Georgia Perry added a 50 as Gabby Dardis got a 58.
This was after a 194-263 win over Cicero-North Syracuse Green on Thursday where Dardis and Noel each shot 48 at Green Lakes, while Perry and Erin Graves both posted 50.
Christian Brothers Academy began its quest to climb back to the top of the Onondaga High School League standings last Tuesday by handing Marcellus its first defeat of the season by a 198-227 margin.
Anna Fuller shot 46 at Tuscarora Golf Club, while Grace Catalano and Meredith Sommers both posted 50. They each bested the 52 from the Mustangs’ Allison Coombs, with Bella Meade matching Coombs’ total.
Then, when the two sides met again 24 hours later at Drumlins, CBA again prevailed 188-209, with Kang’s 44 and Catalano’s 45 ahead of the 46 from Marcellus’ Miranda Stweart and 47 from Coombs. Sommers had a 49, just ahead of Fuller’s score of 50.
Then, in Friday’s first-place showdown with Westhill, CBA again found itself on a the wrong end of it, falling 194-195 to the Warriors.
At the top, Catherine Dadey’s 42 for Westhill beat the 45 from Meade and 46 from Kang. Catalano had a 48, but Mills’ 56 was three behind the fourth-best Warriors total of 53 from Hannah Johnston.
Moving to boys golf, Manlius-Pebble Hill lost 222-259 to Marcellus last Thursday afternoon, though Tommy Wildhack’s 38 matched that of the Mustangs’ low round by Will Glass. James Wildhack had a 49 and Dash Goode added a 50.
Bishop Grimes played Friday, takign a 240-273 defeat to Weedsport, who had Wyatt LaForce shoot 36 and Jack Lowery shoot 39, the same as the Cobras’ Vinny Falgiatano as Joseph Emmi got a 53 for Grimes.
