When Barack Obama is inaugurated on Tuesday, two Cazenovia residents will have reserved seating.
“In the middle of December, I had an e-mail from [U.S.] Sen. Charles Schumer that we had won tickets,” said Debbie Holmes. “I really thought a friend of ours was playing a joke on us.”
Two calls from Schumer’s office on Holmes’ answering machine made her realize it was no joke.
Holmes will be going with Cazenovia resident David Evanciew to the presidential inauguration. According to an e-mail from Schumer, Holmes and Evanciew will be in a secured viewing area at the capitol for the ceremony.
Holmes and Evanciew are both strong Obama supporters, having campaigned for him in Pennsylvania and Virginia during the presidential race.
“Right after Barack won, we e-mailed both our senators asking ‘how do we get tickets?'” Holmes said.
They did not ask to be submitted into a lottery, so the news was a big surprise.
“We’re very, very excited,” said Holmes.
