Getting a non-league victory just before the holiday break, the Marcellus wrestling team made sure it had representation in all the weight classes during last Tuesday’s 39-36 victory over the Fabius-Pompey Falcons.
That would prove real valuable, since the Falcons won five of the first six matches. Only Tim Reedy, at 160 pounds, interrupted that run, pinning F-P’s Guthrie Cordone 37 seconds into the second period.
Starting at 103 pounds, though, the Mustangs, down 30-6, turned it around, as Keith McIntosh (103) and Matt Simms (112 pounds) both claimed forfeits. Matt Marcheterre, in a crucial 119-pound match, beat Marcel LaChance 6-2.
Marcellus got two more forfeits thanks to Austin Simone (125 pounds) and Andrew Eberle (135 pounds), and Pat Cost helped clinch the meet at 130 pounds when he pinned Anthony Tirinato in 30 seconds.
For the season, the Mustangs are 6-3, 2-1 in the OHSL Liberty division, and will compete at the Jan. 3 Port Byron Invitational.
