SYRACUSE – With a deep roster that earned a top-eight finish in every single event, the Cazenovia boys indoor track and field team earned second place in Wednesday’s Division I portion of the Onondaga High School League championships at SRC Arena.
Yet even with this effort, the Lakers’ total of 89 points was not enough to finish on top as Marcellus, with two wins apiece from Tyler Herr in sprints and Peter McCaffrey in jumping events, won with 116 points.
Winning the first relay on the card, Cazenovia’s 4×400 quartet of Dan Millson, Carter Ruddy, Jaden Kaplan and Wyatt Scott went three minutes, 48.79 seconds to edge Marcellus (3:48.99) by two-tenths of a second.
Then Michael Senehi was victorious in the 1,000-meter run, his 2:49.03 enough to hold off a field that included teammate Cassidy Gilmore, who was third in 2:53.96.
Moving to field events, Jed Olkowski won for Cazenovia in the shot put, his toss of 40 feet 6 1/4 inches the only one better than 40 feet as Andrew Kent finished eighth. Olkowski added a seventh in the weight throw behind Elijah Clement (33’11 1/2″) in fifth place.
