ONONDAGA COUNTY – Both in the last days of 2021 and the first days of 2022, a pair of area high school boys bowling teams earned high-quality victories over Baldwinsville.
East Syracuse Minoa went first, topping the Bees 2-1 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes on Dec. 30 largely due to the 692 seies from Ryan Buffin, who had games of 255, 214 and 223.
Luke Leidka closed with a 193 in his 547 series as Mike Sanders had a 522 set and Ryan Dablock earned a 501 series, overcoming a 600 series from B’ville’s Alex Mautz and 556 series from Eric Barski.
F-M did even better, the Hornets blanking the Bees 3-0 last Tuesday at Green Lakes as Michael Nanno led the way, steadily shooting games of 211, 207 and 215 for a 633 series.
Adam Koss only bowled two games, but they were full of strikes as he posted 255 and 256. Brandon Disque shot a 193 second game in his 542 series and Luke Teta closed with a 200 in his 526 series. Mautz posted a 612 series for the Bees.
ESM’s girls lost 3-0 to B’ville, and F-M suffered that same fate as Emily Blakeman (400 series) and Olivia Nissen (394 series) paced the Spartans.
As for F-M, Samantha Estock shot a 520 series, closing with a 204 game, as Carley O’Connor got a 484 series, but they both trailed the Bees’ Julia Spiech, who opened with a 256, closed with a 246 and earned a three-game total of 696.
Both of the F-M teams would sweep Chittenango 3-0 on Thursday afternoon, with the girls Hornets seeing Shelby Miner shoot a 646 series helped by games of 215, 194 and 227. Estock added a 201 opening game in her 521 set.
In the boys match, Nanno opened with a 255 game in his 621 series, just ahead of Koss, whose 603 series included games of 215 and 216 as Teta had a 223 in his 573 series. Jacob Podunajec shot a 623 series for the Bears.
Bishop Grimes bowled last Wednesday at Strike-N-Spare, taking a pair of 3-0 losses to Solvay. Saba Fasama shot a 182 game in her 416 series to lead the girls Cobras, while Nathan Schultz had a 396 series for the boys, well back of the 552 series from the Bearcats’ Zach Balduzzi.
