MARCELLUS — The Marcellus fall Knitting for a Cause event has gained such a following that hats now come in by the bagful, which helped raise the number of hats donated this year to 652. Knitters tell us that they knit the hats year-round knowing that they will be delivered to needy families throughout the cold winter months.
The Samaritan Center received 517 hats, Catholic Charities of Onondaga County received 100 kid’s hats and 35 newborn and toddler hats were delivered to Joseph’s House for Women in Syracuse.
In addition to hats, 52 pairs of mittens, 28 scarves, 5 hand knitted sweaters and eight knitted bags were collected.
The event organizers thank Patchwork Plus Quilt Shop and the Marcellus Library for their sponsorship of Knitting for a Cause, which includes providing drop off boxes for the hats.
