CHITTENANGO – Aside from a season-opening defeat to Tully on Dec. 2, the Chittenango girls volleyball team has retained its usual winning form against everyone else.
The Bears got a three-set sweep of the Faith Heritage Saints on Dec. 16 for its fifth win in a row, but looked like it would face a real test when it took on Fabius-Pompey last Tuesday night.
Sporting a 7-0 record, the Falcons were quickly humbled as Chittenango dominated the first two sets, winning them by margins of 25-15 and 25-12.
F-P nearly extended the match in the third set, but Chittenango closed it out 25-23, with Ashley Montroy picking up 10 assists, helped on the back line by Lily Callahan, who had nine assists and seven digs.
Jackie Korosex not only earned eigth kills, she picked up five aces. Callahan and Taylor Streiff earned four kills apiece, while Stephanie Hucbaee had eight digs, four aces and three kills. Cara Kielbasa contributed five digs.
In the Faith Heritage sweep, Montroy had five aces and Streiff four aces to go with five kills. Callahan piled up nine assists, seven kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks as Montroy amassed 16 assists, Kielbasa got 14 digs and Korosex put away eight kills.
Meanwhile, the Chittenango boys volleyball team made its season debut last Tuesday against Canastota and took just three sets to put away the Raiders 25-10, 25-19, 25-15.
Micah Alperuto’s six aces set the tone for the Bears as he also got six kills and nine digs, with Nate Dziedzic earning seven digs to go with his five kills.
Josh Boulter had five aces, four kills and two blocks, while Trevor Cole got five kills. Jake Simmons dished out 19 assists, adding four kills.
