SYRACUSE – Fresh off a winning sweep at Utica College on Dec. 3, each of the Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams made it to SRC Arena for Wednesday’s opening session of the Oscar Jensen Relays.
The girls Hornets nearly won, its 67 points only trailing the 70.5 from Liverpool as the F-M boys earned 79 points to finish runner-up behind Baldwinsville’s 105 points.
Hannah Kaercher led a top-three girls sweep in the 1,000-meter run, winning in two minutes, 57.97 seconds as Izzie Sullivan was second in 3:04.21 and Amelia Amack (3:11.03) was third.
It was the same in the 600-meter run, only with Isabella Adrian taking top honors in 1:45.50 ahead of Debbie Lucchetti, who in 1:50.54 edged Maria Khalifeh (1:50.57) for second place.
Natalee Barber beat the field in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.41 seconds, with Brigid Teaken sixth to go with her 10th in the shot put as Barber took fourth in the long jump with 14’5” ahead of Elina Cabrera in seventh place.
Maya McKenzie was second in the 300-meter dash in 43.88 seconds, with Adrian sixth. Wren Usiatynski cleared 10’6” in the pole vault for third place.
F-M’s boys team featured a 1-2 sweep in the 600, Trevor Krukin winning the race in 1:30.48 to beat out the 1:30.84 from Will Seamans as Cooper Dereszynski was fourth in 1:32.61.
Daniel Patrick was second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:39.03 and seventh in the boys mile in 4:58.95. Nolan McGinn, in 2:46.59, beat Anthony Otis (2:50.09) for third place in the 1,000 as Ben Perry (2:52.25) was sixth.
Guy Juran made it to third in the triple jump with 35’5” as Owen Rohan was fourth with 34’1 1/2”. Seth Albert was eighth and Vincent Hunt ninth in the 300, while Mike Surowiec was eighth in the weight throw.
A day later, Jamesville-DeWitt was part of the second session of the Jensen Relays, as was Christian Brothers Academy and Bishop Grimes.
The Red Rams finished third in the girls meet with 65.5 points, with the boys fourth by earning 57 points as Lucy Heflin won for the J-D girls in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, and Sydney Balotin had a winning long jump of 14’10 3/4”.
J-D’s boys has Nick Dekaney win the 55 hurdles in 7.90 seconds, the only time under the eight-second mark, before Sam Smith beat the field in the 1,000 in 2:46.09 as Ashton Corona was sixth. Dekaney and Caleb Smith tied for second in the high jump, both clearing 5’10”.
James Hillers’ time of 4:55.43 in the mile was a close second to Marcellus’Caeden Cox (4:54.88) as Grimes’ Sean Moran was sixth in 5:06.58. Hillers also was fourth in the 3,200 in 11:09.47.
Shaun Gladle threw the shot put 34′ 1/2” for third place, with Grimes’ Jason Devore fourth with 34 feet and Daviel Cruz fifth (33’6 3/4”) for the Rams.
Cruz improved to third place in the weight throw with 37”9 1/2” as Cade Fowler finished seventh. Michael Meskos had a third-place long jump of 18’5 3/4” as Mario Smith took sixth place in the triple jump.
CBA’s Darien Williams was victorious in the 55 sprint in 6.94 seconds, with teammate Cameron Smith eighth as J-D’s Dante Santos was fifth in 7.14.
Cooper Groat also won for the Brothers, taking the 600 in 1:28.81 chased by, among others, the Rams’ Shane Gargiulo (1:34.20) in fourth place. Groat got eighth place in the 300.
Balotin went 7.94 seconds for second place in the girls 55 sprint, with Madeline Carter (8.13) in fifth place to go with her eighth in the 300.
Brooke Hulbert took third in the 55 hurdles in 10.70 seconds and fourth in the high jump clearing 4’6”, with Molly McIntyre third in the 3,000 in 12:52.64 and Hannah Fuchsberg in fourth place.
Nicolette Militi was sixth in the 1,000 and McIntyre was seventh in the mile. Grimes had Isabella Esquivel finish fourth in the long jump with 14′ 1/4”. Jojo Meskos was sixth in the triple jump, two spots ahead of Hulbert.
Grace Fletcher gave CBA a second-place finish in the 600 in 1:48.44, with J-D’s Lindsay Hildreth seventh.’
