MARCELLUS — The astounding variety in nature is interpreted in many ways by Central New York artists in “Drawing on Talent,” the Thirteenth Annual Members Exhibit at Baltimore Woods Nature Center.
From Nov. 6 through Dec. 18, drawings, paintings, photographs, ceramics and more will be on display in the Art Gallery of the Interpretive Center at 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus.
An opening reception for this show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 2:30 until 4 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
In addition, the exhibit may be seen when the Interpretive Center is open on Saturdays (10 – 4). The public is most welcome to view the exhibit on Monday through Friday (9 – 4), and those interested are asked to call 315-673-1350 in advance to confirm that the gallery is open. There are no admission or parking fees, and all of the artwork is for sale.
People find peace, solace, invigoration and even inspiration from being outside in natural surroundings. Many of us absorb that energy and interpret it through artistic endeavors such as painting, drawing, sculpting or taking photographs.
Emotion as well as color, light, form, shape, and texture as they apply to animals, landscapes, plants and more, are all studied and rendered, sometimes broadly and in other cases, in great detail. At Baltimore Woods Nature Center, we offer these works of art for others to appreciate and connect to nature in yet another way.
“It is always enjoyable to see what members of Baltimore Woods Nature Center contribute to this exhibit. Not only is there a variety of media, but the subject matter and sensibility are varied as well, always making the hanging of the exhibit a pleasure.” says Gallery Coordinator Karen Jean Smith.
Among the artworks that visitors to the gallery will enjoy is an Adirondack landscape painted in watercolors by Judith Hand, amusingly titled “Mooseless Marsh.”
Anna Stunkel, a naturalist and educator at Baltimore Woods is exhibiting her color pencil rendition of a Northern Cardinal. “Finger Lakes Vineyard,” a mixed media piece by Sharon Frost was inspired on a drive home from Watkins Glen one day in the fall when the sunshine appeared at the same time as the cloudy sky. Buddy Belonsoff will have a photograph of the moon on display titled “Our Neighbor”. Many of the pieces are accompanied by interpretive text which always contributes to the enjoyment of the work.
