ONONDAGA COUNTY – On Monday morning, the Fayetteville-Manlius field hockey team made its way to Baldwinsville, determined to avenge a narrow Sept. 23 defeat and, perhaps, prevent the Bees from completing an undefeated regular season.
The Hornets did so with an 8-2-1 record, built through a pair of wins last week that included a tense 1-0 victory over Liverpool last Monday on Senior Night.
These teams had played to a 0-0 draw at LHS Stadium three weeks earlier, and here the Warriors did all it could to again quiet F-M.
Liverpool goalie McKenna Ecker recorded seven saves, But the Hornets broke through on Sophia Lobo’s goal, assisted by Carine Smith, and held on the rest of the way. F-M’s defense limited the Warriors to two shots.
East Syracuse Minoa began its week last Monday with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Whitesboro where it scored in the first and third quartersto go in front, only to have that group of Warriors rally both times.
Finally, a goal by Jenna Orlando in the seven-on-seven OT period gave ESM the victory, which was followed, two days later, by a 6-0 loss to Baldwinsville.
This week concluded with ESM having its own match against Liverpool Saturday, which resulted in a 1-0 defeat as the Spartans managed just two shots and a goal by Caitlyn Guilfoil held up for the Warriors.
