CAZENOVIA — This month, the Cazenovia Public Library (CPL) Gallery will exhibit the work of artist and former Cazenovia resident Linda Ciallelo (b.1948).
Ciallelo produces realistic, representational oil paintings, pastel drawings, and pencil drawings. Her current subject matter is primarily figurative and still life.
“Linda lived in Cazenovia for many years and is an excellent artist,” said CPL Director Betsy Kennedy. “We thought people would enjoy her work.”
A current resident of Binghamton, NY, Ciallelo lived in Cazenovia for 22 years, during which time she worked under the name Linda Vredenburgh.
“I have done literally hundreds of pencil drawings of Cazenovia children on commission during the 1970s and ‘80s,” Ciallelo said.
According to a Sept. 27 press release announcing the show, the artist has been selling her artwork and winning awards in the Central New York region and around the country since she was 14 years old.
“I am self taught,” noted Ciallelo. “I was, however, able to attend one year of college at Cazenovia College from 1988 to 1989. I moved to Binghamton in 1989 and was not able to exhibit my art until 2018. Other obligations kept me busy.”
She has since been accepted to multiple juried shows in New York City, including the 106th and 108th Allied Artists of America exhibition at the Salmagundi Club on Fifth Avenue. She was also featured in the Salmagundi Club’s juried figurative show in 2020. This past spring, she won third place in the Roberson Museum and Science Center Regional Art Show.
According to Ciallelo, the 14-piece collection on display in the CPL Gallery will include both new works and some older selections. One of the pieces is a pastel drawing while the rest are oil paintings.
“They are figurative and still life paintings,” she said. “I plan to paint some landscapes in the future. Oil painting is relatively new to me, so I’m still learning.”
The exhibit opens Oct. 8 and runs through Oct. 29.
An artist’s reception is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.
The library hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
