CENTRAL NEW YORK – Once again, the Cazenovia boys golf team discovered that anyone in the Onondaga High School League had to try and conquer Christian Brothers Academy if it wanted to reach the top.
In last Monday’s match at Cazenovia Country Club, the Lakers lost, 189-227, to the Brothers, who improved its record to 6-0 as Cazenovia fell to 4-2.
Jack Byrnes did put up a 38 for nine holes, third behind CBA’s duo of Joe Nicholson (35) and Jack Gregory (37).
Three other Brothers golfers – Jack MacLachlan (38), Emmet Kilmartin (39) and Luke Snyder (40) – would beat out the other Lakers’ golfers. Ben Orbach had a 43, with Chris Kelly adding a 44 and Liam Colligan getting a 46.
The Lakers battle followed 24 hours later at CCC, and Cazenovia got the best of it, edging Skanetaeles 216-220.
Byrnes had a 38, matched by Skaneateles’ Shawn Luce and Jack Marquardt. Then Kelly shot a 42, Orbach had a 44 and Colligan had a 45, with Nick Guider’s 47 providing the clinching mark as Will Guider had a 53.
In another tough assignment on Friday, Cazenovia took on Westhill at Camillus Golf Club, where it absorbed a 200-223 defeat to the Warriors.
Shooting a 41, Byrnes found himself tied for fourth place with Aidan Ryan as Anthony Maglisco (37), Luke Gilmartin (38) and Danny Young (40) swept the top three for the Warriors. Colligan shot a 42, with Orback getting a 43. Guider and Kelly both finished with 48.
Meanwhile, Chittenango began its week with a 211-225 defeat to Skaneateles at Rogues Roost, though the Bears’ Alex Moesch led all individuals with a 37.
Tyrus Kelly, shooting a 39, was equaled by Luce and Marquardt. Tanner Smith had a 41 behind Tyson DiRubbo and Ryan Moesch’s 47 trailed a 45 by Will Cowden. Matt Huckabee added a 61.
Turning it around at Millstone a day later, Chittenango handled Jordan-Elbridge 213-237 largely due to Alex Moesch breaking par with a 33 as Kelly added a 37 and Smith a 41. Ryan Moesch shot a 46.
