Chamber to offer free breakfast to Earth Day volunteers
Every year, the Baldwinsville Department of Public Works organizes a community Earth Day clean-up event inviting community organizations, individuals and families to all lend a helping hand in beautifying the village.
From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday April 17, this year’s cleanup will take place along designated banks and shore areas of the Seneca River in Mercer, Community and Canal parks, Meadow Street and the Sergei Yevich Trail.
As part of this year’s event, the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a free breakfast at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event before heading out to do their part.
“This is the third year that the Chamber has been a part of the community clean up,” said Shane Kennard, a chamber director and pastor of The Bridge Church. “We will be specifically focusing on the Chamber Island (Marble Street) and the graffiti walkway, weather permitting.”
Kennard encouraged volunteers to get involved with the clean up to help prepare the community for spring and summer visitors from Central New York and around the world.
“The Chamber wants to make sure our beautiful outdoor scenery is not hindered by anything,” he said. “We ask everyone to bring themselves and any gloves, rakes, push brooms, leaf blowers or any other tool they may use to clean up around their yard.”
Volunteers are still being sought for the village Earth Day cleanup. Parties interested in volunteering should contact Louise Corrigan at the Baldwinsville Department of Public Works, 635-9665, to sign-up. If you plan to take advantage of the chamber’s free breakfast, organizers ask that you RSVP by Wednesday April 14 by calling Lee Wilder at 638-0550 or e-mailing her at [email protected].
In addition to the village clean up, the town of Van Buren’s Highway Department will host their annual spring tire and metal drop off day from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday April 17 at the highway garage, 7855 West Dead Creek Road in Baldwinsville. Call 635-5124.
