CAZENOVIA — This summer, The Friends of Lorenzo (FOL) is sponsoring a scavenger hunt on the grounds of the Lorenzo State Historic Site.
Visitors will have the opportunity to test their sleuthing skills by following clues that lead down the paths, through the garden, and around the buildings on Lorenzo’s grounds.
Participants who answer all of the questions correctly will be entered into a drawing for prizes from the Lorenzo Gift Shop.
The event, which began on June 18, runs through Sunday, July 4 at 5 p.m.
FOL board member Kathleen Conway Hoak, who coordinated the event with Beth Duffy, said the goal of the event is to provide the community with an opportunity to enjoy Lorenzo’s grounds and learn about the history of the site.
“One of the many things The Friends of Lorenzo does is maintain Lorenzo’s formal gardens,” Conway Hoak explained. “We normally have an annual Garden Gala event every June, but we were not able to have it this year because of COVID regulations. We didn’t want another year to go by without the community being able to enjoy the gardens, and with the overwhelming success from our Illuminated Dark Aisle event last December, we thought it would be a nice way to have another community and family-friendly event and give everyone the opportunity to see the wonderful gardens, grounds and trails Lorenzo has to offer.”
According to Conway Hoak, Jackie Roshia, Lorenzo’s interpretive programs assistant, was instrumental in helping FOL compile the clues, and Lorenzo State Historic Site Manager Michael Roets and the rest of the staff were also instrumental in the event preparations.
The Lorenzo grounds are open daily from dawn until dusk.
Instructions and clues can be found at friendsoflorenzo.org.
Winners will be contacted by Friday, July 9, 2021.
