ONONDAGA COUNTY – As the weather continued to warm up to summer-like heat, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys tennis team hoped to match that condition with its on-court play.
The Northstars were successful on May 14 when it shut out Auburn 7-0, and followed up last Monday by hosting West Genesee and putting together a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats.
Having lost 4-3 to WG when these teams met five days earlier, C-NS turned it around with a singles sweep aided by a forfeit to Jamie Courtright.
In the two matches that were contested, William Janusz blanked Sam Barth 6-0, 6-0, and Matt Jordan was nearly as dominant, putting away Josh Pierce 6-1, 6-1.
Though the Wildcats claimed two points in doubles, Ethan and Wyatt Dupell paired up to claim a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 decision over Dan Good and Ben Paoli as Alex Cao and Brady Petranchuk outlasted Joe Paoli and Jonathan Welles 7-5, 7-6.
C-NS went from there to challenging undefeated Fayetteville-Manlius on Thursday afternoon, but unable to earn a point in a 7-0 defeat to the Hornets.
The closest of the four doubles matches had the Dupell brothers take a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Jaden Duggal and Davin Woolridge, with Hill, Jordan and Keil each overwhelmed in singles by the Hornets’ trio of David Fernando, Cameron Lukasik and Fergus Brady.
Back in action that same Thursday afternoon, Liverpool took on Baldwinsville, who had dropped two matches to F-M by 4-3 and 5-2 margins in the week leading up to this match.
But the Bees’ quality was on display in a 7-0 win over the Warriors as, combined, Liverpool’s singles trio of Cole Potrzeba, Aiden Barbour and Evan Prosser won just four games in six sets.
It wasn’t much different in doubles, where Cole DenBleyker and Evan Miller got the most games in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Nick Helbig and Colin Savage. The teams of Adam Reiter-Brett Ritter, Aiden Hunter-James Welch and Brandon Davis-Shohbit Sharma also lost in two sets.
