LIVERPOOL – Each of the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool track and field teams had plenty to offer when their long-time rivalry resumed after a two-year absence.
But in terms of the team standings Wednesday afternoon at LHS Stadium, they both tilted in favor of the Northstars, who won the boys meet 100-41 and prevailed 83-56 over the Warriors in the girls meet.
Sam Nessel, in 11.65 seconds, beat out Walker Trevon Walker (11.79) in the 100-meter dash, while in the 400-meter dash JadinTinker won in 53.94 seconds to Nessel’s 54.92.
Isaiah Wright roared to a victory for the C-NS boys in the 110 high hurdles in 16.26 seconds to Jack Tschopp’s 16.91, while Jacob Schmid went 1:03.19 in the 400 hurdles and Sean Graves (1:07.07) was second.
Tschopp, with his long jump of 19′ feet 7 inches, was just ahead of the 19’1” from the Warriors’ Michael Nigro. Maxwell White threw the shot put 44’11” to beat the 37’4” from teammate Vincent Pisa. Gavin McAllister’s pole vault of 9 feet beat out the 8’6” from Liverpool’s Declan Fahy.
Liverpool did win all of the distance races, from Ryan Hagan ducking under two minutes to take the 800-meter run in 1:59.29 and claiming the 3,200 in 10:23.29 to Ryan Cartwright’s 1,600-meter title in 4:39.69. C-NS had Owen Greco take second in the 800 and Edwin Hirsh second in the 3,200.
Also, Bennett Robb cleared 6 feet to give the Warriors the victory in the high jump, while Nigro, after his runner-up effort in the long jump, beat the field in the triple jump by going 37’6”.
Moving to the girls meet, C-NS senior Brooke Blaisdell took over against Liverpool with victories in three different events.
In the 100 sprint, Blaisdell’s 13.35 seconds edged the 13.43 from the Warriors’ Sophia Jarosz. Then Blaisdell unleashed a long jump of 18’3” and a triple jump of 36’6” to dominate those disciplines.
Hannah Boyle, the Northstars’ school-record holder in the 400 sprint, went 27.35 seconds to claim the 200 and would again win the 400 sprint in 58.89 seconds as McKenna Slate (1:03.04) was second.
Kate Putman went 2:16.20 to win the 800, with Allison Newton going 1:10.76 in the 400 hurdles as Marissa Navarra, in 5:05.09, edged Liverpool’s Gabby McCarthy (5:07.02) to take the 1,500-meter run. Lilly Capria won the high jump, clearing 5’10”.
Liverpool’s Kaitlyn Burt, second in the 400 hurdles, beat the field in the 100 hurdles in 17.54 seconds as Sophia Recuparo and Amelia Loop both cleared 7’6” in the pole vault and Janea Hamilton-Brown threw the shot put 30’7”
