Bowling for Autism, a nonprofit that promotes autism awareness, while also giving back to local organizations that support those with special needs. I created it in 2012 in honor of my brother who is on the spectrum.
Bowling for Autism began when I lived in Pennsylvania and is 12 years old this year. This is the inaugural for a CNY branch and the event will be on Saturday, May 13 at B’ville Sports Bowl, 45 E. Genesee St., Baldwinsville.
There will be bowling, music by The Guy Young Band and a raffle. All of the funds that Bowling for Autism donates stays local. The cost is $25 a person and includes two games, shoes and a $5 food voucher. Tickets for the raffle are $5 an arm length.
The first recipient of Bowling for Autism CNY is FamiliesFIRST, formerly known as Feat of CNY. FamiliesFIRST is a nonprofit group that supports families who have children with autism and other special needs. FamiliesFIRST provides family training, respite, therapy, sensory items, items to make your home safe, care packages/groceries and events for families to attend.
The group even sponsors and conducts free dental practice visits for children. FamiliesFIRST is located in the Baldwinsville/Clay area and has been serving Onondaga County for over 20 years.
