Mustangs’ Foy wins twice at girls track sectional state qualifier

Solvay's Williams, Westhill's Murphy also earn spots in state meet

CICERO – Several area high school girls track and field athletes will make their way to Middletown next weekend for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.

Some of those berths were earned earlier in the season, but others got them Thursday at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium during the Section III state qualifying meet.
A local showdown in the Class C 100-meter hurdles had Marcellus junior Madison Foy win in 14.50 seconds to the 15.13 of Westhill’s Emma Murphy, with Bishop Ludden’s Alexi Sheen fourth in 16.31.

Both Foy and Murphy will compete in the state meet and Foy will have a shot at a medal in the 400 hurdles after winning that race in the qualifier in 1:03.58 nearly three seconds clear of Hamilton’s Claire Filipowicz (1:06.41). Murphy got fourth in the long jump going 18 feet 1 inch.
