Marcellus boys track finds success at state qualifying meet

Solvay's Hicks takes 200; Skaneateles' Boucher victorious in 800

CICERO – All of the area’s high school track and field teams would spend two days at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium taking part in the Section III state qualifying meets.

The boys meet was first on Tuesday and Marcellus assured itself of representation at the state meet at Middletown High School this weekend when Liam Eldridge, Jack Lucio, Jamison Palen and Xander Szalach won the Class C 4×800 relay going eight minutes, 11.31 to smash the state qualifying standard of 8:15.62. Eldridge added a third in the Class C 3,200-meter run in 9:56.71.

A local showdown in the 400 hurdles had the Mustangs’ Colden Kwasnowski go 56.97 seconds just ahead of the 57.52 from Westhill senior Owen Mulholland.

Owen Alexander’s 15.37 seconds in the 110 hurdles was second while Solvay had Giovanni Cilani third in 16.03. Szalach took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 51.93 and sixth in the high jump clearing 5 feet 10 inches.

Solvay got a win rom Antwan Hicks on the Class C side in the 200-meter dash where he tore to victory in 22.36 seconds and Muholland (23.23) settled for sixth place.

In the long jump, Hicks’ second-place 22’2 1/4” beat the state qualifying standard of 21’10 3/4’ as Cilani was third going 20 feet, but Cilani was victorious in the triple jump going 44’ 1/4”, the only attempt better than 44 feet.

Skaneateles had Tritan Boucher go 1:58.78 at 800 meters to easily beat the 2:01.36 of Cooperstown’s Jacob Johnson, while Dylan McCrone topped 13 feet in the pole vault for a second-place finish and Brayden Mayer was eighth in the high jump at 5’8”.

Up in Class A, West Genesee was victorious in the 4×400 relay where Zach Hann and Dan Kermes ran well at the outset, Nick Lamanna took the lead in the third leg and Logan Scott brought it home in 3:28.43, more than three seconds clear of the field.

Dylan Frost won, too, his 100-meter dash time of 10.98 seconds the only one under 11 seconds beating out the 11.11 of Fayetteville-Manlius’ Alex Shim. In the 200 Frost finished fourth in 22.54, with Fettig seventh in 22.80.

The Wildcats nearly won the 4×100 relay having Scott, Michael Creedon, Will Fettig and Dylan Frost finish in 41.91 seconds just behind East Syracuse Minoa’s 41.82. Dillon Holzwarth was third in the 800 in 2:03.56 as Xander Neumann added a fourth in the 110 hurdles in 17.34 and Dan Kermes topped 11 feet to finish third in the pole vuault.

Landon Derbyshire’s 49’10 1/2” in the shot put put him second to Rome Free Academy’s Jacob Ciccone (50’3 1/2”) while in the discus Derbsyhire finished fifth with 140’11”.

Marcellus also had Nolan Hoey throw the discus 137’10” for second place as Ay-Zoh Shaw finish third in the pentathlon earning 2,604 points.

Jordan-Elbridge thrower Roanan Ross got second place in the Class C shot put throwing it 45’9 1/2”, with Hoey (43’6 3/4”) and Solvay’s Dylan Mumford (42’11 1/2”) also in the top five. For Bishop Ludden, Porter Sheen was fourth in the Class C 1,600-meter run in 4:46.27.
