West Genesee track runs at Central Square meet with F-M

Skaneateles girls beat Phoenix, get wins at ESM Invitational

CENTRAL NEW YORK – In yet another multi-team track and field meet last Wednesday afternoon West Genesee joined Fayetteville-Manlius and Fulton traveling to Central Square.

The boys Wildcats won in field events, as Landon Derbyshire had a winning shot put toss of 43 feet 3 inches and went 116’7” for second place in the discus ahead of Liam Walsh (108’9”) and Tom LeBarron (104’8”). Dan Kermes topped 10’6” and was victorious in the pole vault.

An exciting 4×400 relay had WG’s quartet of Zach Hann, Dan Kermes, Rhison Williams and Will Fettig get beat by the tiniest margin possible with 3:39.583 to Central Square’s 3:39.582 – the difference of one-thousandth of a second.

Dylan Frost, in 22.92 seconds, finished second in the 100-meter dash to Nikita Domashenko’s 21.57. Frost also was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.52 as Dan Kermes took third in the 800-meter run in 2:08.43.
Kaleb Walker went 38’6 1/4” in the triple jump to finish second. Will Rufa got second in the 110 hurdles in 17.29 seconds, with Xander Neuman third. Jake Coffey finished third in the high jump clearing 5’4”.

On the girls side for WG, Amelia Jennings won the shot put going 31’8” in the shot put as Mia Kessler had a third-place discus toss of 82’9” and Jennings was fifth there.

Mary Elizabeth Cornish finished first in the 400 hurdles in 1:19.88, with Zaida Talev topping 7 feet for second place in the pole vault.

Claire Griffin went 1:02.12 to beat Chloe Feitze (1:03.25) for second place in the 400-meter dash. Mikenna Komuda took second (17.68 seconds) and Madelyn Neuman third in the 100 hurdles, Neuman also getting third in the 200 in 28.75 as Lilyana Kupiec was third at 3,000 meters and Komuda third in the high jump clearing 4’8”.

Skaneateles had a meet against Phoenix where the girls Lakers prevailed 88-53, but the boys lost 82-59 to the Firebirds.

Lucy Fleckenstein led the girls taking the 400 sprint in 1:02.8 and the 800 in 2:28.9, while Tobi DiRubbo beat the field in the 1,500 (5:31.1) and 3,000 (12:35.8). Wins also went to Kathryn Cowden (100 sprint), Eva DeJesus (200), Taylor Harvey (long jump), Meg Tate (shot put), Abby McCrone (pole vault) and Quinn Reilly (high jump).

Ryan McCrone cleared 12’6” in the pole vault during the boys meet, where John Rossi was first in the 1,600 (5:03.2) and 800 (2:17.5) distance events and Ben Williams claimed the 3,200 in 12:18.4.

Jordan-Elbridge lost to Homer 93-47 on the boys side and 113-17 on the girls side, the boys Eagles seeing Ayden Campion clear 10 feet in the pole vault and the 4×800 relay side prevail in 9:29 as Lukas Green, who was in that relay, won the 1,600 in 5:25.1.

Bishop Ludden won its girls meet 72-52 over Port Byron led by Hailey Gilbertsen, who won the 800 in 2:47.1 and the 1,500 in 5:36.1, and Lexi Sheen, who ran the 100 hurdles in 16.8 and the 400 hurdles in 1:15.3. Quinn Eskander added victories in the 100 and 200 sprints.

After all this, in Saturday’s East Syracuse Minoa Invitational Skaneateles got a victory from McCrone in the pole vault as McCrone ignored the wet conditions and cleared 12 feet, no one else topping 10 feet.
McCrone made it a Lakers’ sweep in the girls pole vault by topping 7 feet as Fleckenstein finished second in the girls 800 in 2:18.78 as Cowden took fifth in the 100 hurdles.
