Boys tennis Bees charge toward showdown with F-M

Baldwinsville handles Central Square, West Genesee, ESM

CENTRAL NEW YORK – With each convincing victory the Baldwinsville boys tennis team once again established the fact that it could, in top form, give Fayetteville-Manlius a proper challenge for league and Section III supremacy.

These two powers were scheduled to clash on Monday following another week of Bees success which kicked off last Monday against Central Square by shutting out the Redhawks 7-0.

Nathan Smith faced a tough opening set but still won 6-4, 6-0 over Thai Ryfun, while Eric Ventura and Connor Donovan did not drop a game in 6-0, 6-0 romps – Ventura beating Devin Seymour, Donovan handling Sam Fallows. Another 6-0, 6-0 match had Nick Fogu and Kai Wilson beating Eli Schuleter and Paul Newton.

Tom Canfield and Jack Wedemeyer raced past Corey Luedemann and Anthony Phan 6-0, 6-1, with Mason Doan and Ethan Haahr beating Dylan Logan and Anthony Clark by those same scores. Eoin Burke and Steve Pisacano topped Shaun Peppers and Evan Delahunt 6-0, 6-2.

Meeting West Genesee two days later, B’ville not only prevailed 7-0, but didn’t even surrender a single game in any of the three singles matches as Smith beat Jacob Dalton, Ventura handled Aidan McCormick and Donovan beat Nate Arndt.

Yet another 6-0, 6-0 match had Doan and Haahr top Ethan Gage and Sawyer Ruston. Canfield and Wedemeyer won 6-1, 6-0 over Jheyson Ricardo and Connor Parker, with Fogu and Wilson handling Nate Ruston and Paul Toumbacaris 6-0, 6-2. Burke and Piscano beat Evan Powers and Jonah Hanlon 6-3, 6-1.

More dominance followed in Friday’s 7-0 romp over East Syracuse Minoa. Six matches were contested and five were 6-0, 6-0 victories, the lone exception in singles where Donovan surrendered a single game beating Chris Hurd 6-0, 6-1.

The showdown with F-M kicks off the last week of B’ville’s regular season which also includes matches against Oswego and Syracuse City.
