Baldwinsville boys track earns victory at ESM Invitational

Girls Bees a close second to C-NS helped by three relay titles

ONONDAGA COUNTY – This spring for the Baldwinsville track and field teams has included meets where it met as many as four Salt City Athletic Conference rivals in a single setting.

But it has also found success in larger events such as Saturday’s East Syracuse Minoa Invitational, where the Bees nearly pulled off a sweep of the team titles.

In the boys event B’ville prevailed getting 110 points clear of runner-up Cicero-North Syracuse’s 83, while in the girls meet the Bees had 118 points just behind C-NS who got first place with 120 points.

Cleaning up in relays, B’ville’s sprint medley side beat the field in 3:44.15 for its only victory of the meet, the Bees adding a second in the 4×400 in 3:34.10 and the 4×100 in 45.20 seconds plus a third in the 4×800 going 9:16.61.

Otherwise it was a lot of second and third-place efforts, such as in the long jump where Arthur Bullock’s 20 feet 8 ½ inches matched C-NS’s Anthony Johnson and London Premo was third with 20’2 1/2”.

The same thing happened in the discus, with the Bees’ Kallen Kennedy unleashing a second-place throw of 116’5” edging the third-place 116’2” from Joe Pasho.

Kayden Gilbert was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.66 seconds with Bullock fourth in 11.67. Jeremy Francisco added a third in the 200-meter dash posting 24.27.

In the 400 hurdles Wyatt Decker’s 59.24 seconds got him to second place as Premo was third in 1:01.23. Jacob Guelli ran the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:50.40 for third place. Decker also took fourth in the triple jump going 39’5 3/4”.

Logan Bolton ran to fourth place at 800 meters in 2:06.65 George Bauer was sixth in the 400-meter dash and Dom Dottolo sixth in the 1,600-meter run.

Over in the girls ESM meet B’ville got a win from Kamryn Barton, who ran the 800 in 2:15.85 nearly three seconds clear of the field as Rachel Becker took second in the 400 hurdles posting 1:11.97 to go with a fourth in the long jump.

Not only this, but B’ville won three relays, taking the 4×400 in 4:14.93, the sprint medley in 4:20.98 and the 4×800 in 10:35.8, also going 1-2 in the 2,000 steeplechase as Yolanda Wei won in 7:51.27 ahead of Ella DeFio’s 8:03.76 in second place.

Mariah LeGrow’s 1:01.95 in the 400 sprint put her in second place, with Bella Zapf going 17.90 seconds in the 100 hurdles for third place and Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen third in the 200 hurdles in 33.12.

Mya Bregande topped 4’6” for second place in the high jump. Leah Bahamonde added a second in the discus with 88 feet and a fourth in the shot put. Madelyn Donhauser took fourth in the 1,500-meter run and Adriana Pritchard was fifth in the 100 sprint.

Three days earlier, the Bees’ meet at rival Liverpool last Wednesday included ESM and Oswego, but B’ville still managed to beat all of them in several boys and girls events.

Bullock led the B’ville boys as his time of 23.15 seconds in the 200-meter dash beat out the 23.31 from ESM’s John Jordan, with Gilbert third in 23.33 and Rex Kirkegaard fourth in 23.93.

The Bees’ 8:35.14 in the 4×800 relay from Kirkegaard, Bolton, Dottolo and Chris Patruno just trailed Liverpool’s 8:34.34. Gilbert was close to a win in the 100-meter dash, his 11.54 seconds just behind the 11.43 of ESM’s Anthony Bryant.

In the 400 hurdles Decker went 58.08 but just behind the 57.89 of Liverpool’s Brayden Smith, while Dottolo’s 2:08.02 in the 800-meter run just trailed a 2:07.46 from Josh Vang.

Pasho threw the discus 132’5 just behind Oswego’s Logan Duval’s 135’3” as Kennedy was second in the shot put throwing it 41’2” and London Premo had a long jump of 20’6”. Decker took second in the triple jump going 40’11 1/4”.

On the girls side, Bahamonde went 30’11” to win the shot put over Liverpool’s Jenna Hayes (30’2”) and then sent the discus 101’7” nearly 20 feet ahead of anyone else.

LeGrow prevailed in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.55 edging Liverpool’s Maddie Devendorf in 1:10.79, while in the 800 Wei’s 2:32.03 held off the 2:32.13 of the Warriors’ Katei Martin.

Barton’s quick 58.68 in the 400-meter dash was right behind Mia Wright’s 58.22 for Liverpool but she joined Emerson Clavijo, Amerie Williams and Emmy Buchanan to win the 4×400 in 4:12.69. Kate DeFio was third in the pole vault with a clearance of 8’6”.

Another big week is ahead for B’ville, from Wednesday’s meet hosting Auburn, Fayetteville-Manlius, Henninger and West Genesee to the annual Arcaro Relays on Friday afternoon starting at 4:30.
