CENTRAL NEW YORK – Six area high school track and field teams gathered last Monday at East Syracuse Minoa for a meet where the Spartans would more than stand up well to the competition.
Jay-Neil McDuffie would prevail in the triple jump against rivals from Baldwinsville, Cicero-North Syracuse, Central Square and West Genesee by going 21 feet 2 ¾ inches, with Phil Moore in fourth place.
In the boys 100-meter dash John Jordan won in 11.71 seconds, adding a third in the 200 in 23.70. Ryan Sullivan cleared 5’10” to beat the field in the high jump as Charlie English topped 11 feet for a victory in the pole vault.
Andrew LeMarche had a second-place shot put toss of 42’5 1/2” and went 127’11” for second in the discus ahead of Aaron Ali’s third-place 116’5”. Sullivan took second in the triple jump going 43’7” a quarter-inch behind C-NS’s Anthony Johnson’s 43’7 1/4”.
ESM also had the top time in the girls 4×800 as Rachael Burt, Bailey Rehm, Jaelyn Jordan and Leah Rehm posted 10:20.72. Aniyah Jones threw the shot put 29’10 3/4” for second place. Rachael Burt got second in the 3,000 in 11:25.16 and Amber Hayes was third in the 100 hurdles in 15.65 seconds. Elise Mancini cleared 7’6” for third in the pole vault.
Then ESM would face C-NS again on Wednesday afternoon, only this time head-to-head.
McDuffie went 20’6 1/2” in the long jump and, with Jordan, Sullivan and Anthony Bryant, tore to first in the 4×100 in 43.8 seconds as Bryant and Jayden Recabo both went 11.2 in the 100 sprint, with Justin Gaskins going 53.3 in the 400 sprint and Seamus DeSandre putting up a time of 2:08.7 in the 800-meter run.
English again had a pole vault clearance of 11 feet, with Ali improving his discus throw to 120 feet and LaMarche going 43’4” in the shot put. Tyler Quarry cleared 5’8” in the high jump.
During the girls meet between ESM and C-NS Burt earned times of 2:27.3 in the 800 and 5:05.6 in the 1,500, while Ayak Kuany cleared 5 feet in the high jump and Neveah Hackett went 33’9 3/4” in the triple jump. Hayes ran the 100 hurdles in 14.9 seconds.
Christian Brothers Academy lost both sides of last Wednesday’s meet with Chittenango but still saw Darien Williams tear to a time of 10.7 in the 100 sprint ahead of Daunte Bacheyie’s 11.3.
Quentin Lewis went 41’3 1/2” in the triple jump and 20’9” in the long jump, while Donovan Collins cleared 6 feet in the high jump. Williams, Lewis, Bacheyie and Zion Green got a time of 42.4 seconds in the 4×100.
In the girls meet for CBA Ava Lavalle went 5:10 in the 1,500-meter run, with Neveah Bacheyie taking the 100 sprint in 12.7 seconds before she won the 200 in 27.1.
