ONONDAGA COUNTY – An extraordinary week for the West Genesee wrestling team which saw it win the Section III Division I Dual Meet concluded last Saturday when it swept all five of its opponents and won the Wildcat Duals it hosted in Camillus.
Chittenango, with 4-1, had the closest mark to the Wildcats’ 5-0, but even this didn’t reflect the gap between those sides as WG, authoring the decisive points, bashed the Bears 64-11.
Of the five pins, Logan Willis at 145 pounds had the quickest one, 83 seconds over Kole Smith six seconds faster than Raul Colon’s pin of Chris Blair. Elijah Apps (215 pounds) pinned Peter Schulz with five seconds left in their bout as Aiden Wright (101 pounds) had a 92-second pin of Tyler Addison and Harrison Card (131 pounds) pinned Neri Abt.
Before this, the Wildcats opened with a 69-3 romp of East Syracuse Minoa which was mostly forfeits, though Ali Abumustafa at 145 pounds pinned Aiden Pahon and Rylan Struse (285 pounds) got past Matt Russo 7-2.
WG’s 63-12 win over Whitesboro had, in the early going, Owen Fuller (116 pounds) pinning Anthony Spano in 32 seconds. Maxx Fesinger (170 pounds) got his pin over John Dibrangon in 59 seconds as Raulo Colon (190 pounds) pinned Bernard Jowers and Omar Almlaiti (285 pounds) earned a 7-0 shutout of Ryan Burt.
General Brown was next and the Wildcats won here 59-9, starting with Cole Willis at 116 pounds pinning Jackson Gerstsenchalger late in the third period and continuing with Max Alexander (124 pounds) pinning Chance Come in the first period. Abumustafa, Card and Maxx Fesinger also earned pins.
Following the win over Chittenango WG closed out the day handling Rome Free Academy 63-6, which included four consecutive pins from Abumustafa, Logan Willis, Anthony Pallone (138 pounds) and Samir Aboshrekah (160 pounds) along with Card opening the match beating Jesse Butler 8-3.
Marcellus wrestled that same day in the Hornet Duals at Fayetteville-Manlius, going 4-1 as it swept the opposition until the closing match, a 32-24 defeat to Central Square.
Unable to get any pin against the Redhawks, the Mustangs had Jack Burton (138), Trevor Rankin (152), Jayden Abbott (170) and Knoll McCoy (108) get decisions, Rankin a 2-1 battle with Jordan Ransom as Anthony Decapio (160) and Brayden Borst (101) each lost 6-4 bouts – Decapio to Logan Frank, Borst to Chris Pulis.
Before that, Marcellus rolled, starting 71-6 over Oswego with pins from Abbott, Blaine Haney (124 pounds) and Caleb Posecznick (215), followed by a 57-14 romp of Southern Hills where Emmett Barnes (138) and Elliott Barbosa (190) got pins to join Abbott, Haney, Borst and McCoy.
A big win was picked up when Marcellus defeated Fulton 42-24, with a pin from Haney and a 3-0 Jack Burton decision over Waylon Watson got the Mustangs moving. Rankin beat Collen Austin 12-7 before pins by Decapio, Abbott and Barbosa as Travis Stack, at 285, pinned McEwen Connor.
During the Mustangs’ 49-19 victory over Indian River Jake Burton opened at 124 edging Alic Berroa-Pensa 12-10 as McCoy, Posecznick and Jack Burton added pins and Abbott won 12-2 over Edniel Melendez-Aristud.
Jordan-Elbridge went up against Baldwinsville Thursday night and would pull out a 36-32 decision over the Bees by claiming the last two bouts on the card.
Trailing 32-26, the Eagles would get within one at 170 with Drake Allen’s technical fall over Aiden Johnson and win it in the finale at 190 thanks to Glen Sanchez pinning Connor Daughton in 64 seconds.
They had opened at 285 with Alex Coomber going to overtime and getting a takedown to beat Corbin Williamson 3-0. It went back and forth from there, Mason Tanner (108) claiming a forfeit and Ben Lamson (124) beating Coleman Bouthillier with a technical fall.
Liam Mantell’s 87-second pin of Jack Webb at 131 and Logan Merriam pinning Brendan Fredenburg at 145 served as crucial points until Allen and Sanchez arrived late to win it.
