CENTRAL NEW YORK – Though the Baldwinsville wrestling team did not compete in last Monday’s Section III Division I Dual Meet, it still got an opportunity to challenge the side which prevailed in that event.
Going up against West Genesee last Wednesday night, the Bees were in front with four bouts to go, only to see the Wildcats sweep all of the higher weight classes and prevail by a score of 47-26.
Right away B’ville got three tough points at 108 pounds when Cael Bruce, improving to 32-1 on the season, took on WG’s Cole Willis and claimed a 2-1 decision right before he pinned Cole Fasulo in 58 seconds.
At 138 pounds, Scottie Warner earned an 87-second pin over Harrison Card. Nathan Cali (152 pounds) dominated Ali Abumustafa in a 22-7 technical fall and Davian Longo, at 160 pounds, pinned Elmidar Bulatov in the second period.
All of this put the Bees in front 26-23, but starting with Jack Wade at 170 pounds the Wildcats would sweep the rest of the card, getting pins from Maxx Fesinger (190 pounds) and Elijah Apps (285 pounds) in 90 seconds and Raul Colon (215 pounds) in 40 seconds to close it out.
B’ville’s girls wrestling team went to last Monday’s Red Dragon Duals at Fulton and split the matches there, defeating Mexico 35-22 but taking a 31-29 defeat to Holland Patent.
Against Mexico the Bees got Haylee Robinson (126 pounds) to pin Giuliana Jones and Arianna Leo (114 pounds) to pin Sarah Place as Addyson Kral, at 107 pounds, shut out Noilyn Lent. Forfeits went to Jailey Crysler (100 pounds), Alexandra Coher (165 pounds), Riley Meyer (185 pounds) and Ilyana Malinova (235 pounds).
The match with Holland Patent turned on the Golden Knights winning five of the eight contested bouts. Still, Robinson pinned Madeline Yerman in 2:23, Crysler routed Brynn Phan 20-7 and Breanna Leo (152 pounds) stood out with a 23-second pin of Addison Snyder. Coher and Malinova again took forfeits, as did Abigail Clark at 94 pounds.
