SYRACUSE – All through a snow-filled second Sunday of December, a handful of area indoor track and field teams made the short trek to SRC Arena for the Oscar B. Jensen Memorial Relays.
Marcellus did quite well in the afternoon session, its boys team earning 71.5 points for second behind Baldwinsville (111) as the girls Mustangs finished seventh and Jordan-Elbridge also took part.
Andrew McCaffery, clearing 10 feet, was third in the boys pole vault. Joe Striffler was third in the 300-meter dash in 39.49 seconds and took fourth in the triple jump with 38 feet 2 ½ inches.
Nolan Manahan went 2:56.93 in the 1,000-meter run for fourth place. hIan Potter got fifth (17’6 1/4”) in the long jump and Ethan Snyder fifth in the 55-meter dash in 6.95 seconds. Lukas Grieb, in 9.43 seconds, edged Nate Alexander (9.44) for fourth in the 55 hurdles.
Paul Swenson ran the 600 in 1:37.41 for sixth place, equaling Liam Eldridge’s sixth (5:03.41) in the 1,600-meter run as Ay-Zoh Shaw (1:40.90) was ninth in the 600.
Cameron Sadler was sixth in the shot put with 36’2 1/4”. Xander Szalach, sixth in the 300, also was sixth in the high jump, clearing 5’2” as Scott Hall was eighth in the weight throw with 37’2”.
Leading the Marcellus girls, Sophia Maum won at 3,000 meters in 11:41.28. Bailey Ellis won the shot put, her toss of 26’4 3/4” just head of the 26’1 1/2” from Oswego’s Riley King
Lorelai Riefler cleared 4’8” for third place in the high jump and was seventh in the 1,000 in 3:42.58 to go with a ninth in the triple jump.
Olivia Smolen had a fifth-place weight throw of 26 feet as Bailey Ellis (24’2”) was seventh, equaling Abby Bianchi’s finish in the 300 as Bianchi was ninth and Bryn Goldsworthy eighth in the 55 sprint. Smolen was 10th in the long jump. Sophia Bianchi took fifth in the 55 hurdles in 10.46 seconds and eighth in the 600.
J-E had Alex Kunz, in 10:50.78, beat out Marcellus’ Nate Alexander (10:55.61) for fifth in the 3,200-meter run as the Eagles’ Peyton Bates was seventh in 11:02.74. and also seventh in the 1,600-meter run. Abby Bates was seventh in the girls 3,000 behind Maum.
Westhill was part of the morning session at the Jensen meet, tying for fifth in the girls meet with 35 points as the boys settled for a tie for 12th.
Mary Kate Rewakowski won the girls pole vault, clearing 8 feet with fewer misses than Cicero-North Syracuse’s Kaleigh Boismenu as Ava Lasher (7 feet) was fifth. Carter Buckman won the boys pole vault by topping 10’6”.
Emma Murphy got fourth place in the girls 55 hurdles in 10.20 seconds, with Ava Baty ninth. Kennedy Rose was fifth in the 600 in 1:48.58 to go with a ninth in the 300. Eileen Mullen gained eighth place in the 1,000 in 3:35.95.
In the boys p600, the Warriors’ Carter Buckman finished second in 1:32.02 to the 1:29.05 from Cazenovia’s Jaden Kaplan.
Solvay had Emily Rolince gain fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 26’10”, two spots ahead of Westhill’s Morgan Heise, with Rolince also ninth in the weight throw.
