Onondaga — Each of the area’s indoor track and field teams found themselves as part of the morning shift in Saturday’s season-opening Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena, with Jamesville-DeWitt’s girls and Christian Brothers Academy’s boys both earning third-place finishes in their respective divisions.
When it came to the girls race, the Red Rams had 60 points, beating out Fayetteville-Manlius (50 points) for that third spot, with CBA (46 points) and East Syracuse Minoa (22 points) further back. Cicero-North Syracuse, with 96 points, won, with Skaneateles (65 points) just ahead of the Red Rams for the runner-up spot.
J-D got going with Alexandria Payne winning the 55-meter hurdles in 8.73 seconds, with CBA’s Skylar Decker (9.72 seconds) in fifth place. Payne would prevail again in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 2 inches as no one else could top 4’10”.
Sarah Signorelli was victorious for J-D in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches, a foot ahead of Tully’s Mackenzie Delies (7’6”). Mariah Williams was second in the shot put, tossing it 29’11 ¾” as teammate Jessica Pace (26’9 ¾”) was fifth.
F-M did win in the 4×800 relay, where Susan Bansbach, Reilly Madsen, Haleigh Pascual and Phoebe White finished in 10:14.72, with J-D’s quartet of Elena Haarer, Sophia Vinciguerra, Hannah Butler and Alisa Salbert second in 10:26.74 and ESM sixth in 12;29.05. Butler would later finish second (3:16.82) to C-NS’s Annina Marullo (3:11.77) in the 1,000-meter run.
CBA swept the top spots in the 55-meter dash, where Anna Schug won in 7.58 seconds and Kiana Ferguson was second in 7.68 seconds. Also, the Brothers had Lea Kyle finish fourth (5:14.54) and Lucy Person get fifth place (5;18.94) behind F-M’s Alex Villalba (5:10.97) in the 1,500-meter run, where the Hornets’ Megan Menz got sixth place.
Mia Montgomery starred for ESM, winning the long jump when she went 16 feet 1 ¼ inches, with Ferguson second (15’11”) and F-M’s Cady Barns third (15’2 ¼”) as J-D’s Alexia Carr managed sixth place. Lindsey Crego got third in the shot put (29’3 ¼”) behind Williams, with Hannah Penoyer seventh behind F-M’s Sophia Jones in sixth place.
continued — F-M’s Christy Berge’ was second in the 600-meter run in 1:47.06, while CBA got Olivia Morganti third in 1:49.40 and Kat Fletcher fifth in 1:51.18. The Hornets also had Katie Krieger finish fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 12:11.42 and Meaghan Howe take fifth (7.71 seconds) in the 55 sprint, with ESM’s Sarah Tingley sixth in the 3,000 in 13:06.35.
Howe, Berge’, White and Febe Oley helped F-M take third in the 4×400 relay in 4:27.41, with CBA fourth in 4:30.32 and J-D (4:35.85) in fifth place. Barns, Sydney O’Dell, Phoebe Lindabury and Abigail Zuber were third in 1:58.34, with ESM (2:01.11) well clear of J-D (2:05.90) for fifth place.
CBA only had 35 points in the boys race, but that put the Brothers third behind C-NS (119 points) and just two points behind runner-up Tully (35 points) as ESM (28 points) edged F-M (27 points) and J-D (24 points) for fifth place.
For the Brothers, Nikhil Reddy was victorious in the 600 in a time of 1:28.92, edging out C-NS’s Andrew Bearkland (1:28.95) by 0.03 seconds, while F-M’s Sean Donlon was fifth in 1:33.30.
CBA also saw Tom SanGiacomo, in a clocking of 6.84 seconds, take second to Henninger’s Devin Redden (6.74 seconds) in the 55 sprint. SanGiacomo, Reddy, Pat Carey and Brendan Keeney were second in the 4×400 relay in 3:49.32, though C-NS (3:37.92) was far out in front and F-M (4:01.01) settled for fourth place. The Hornets did better in the 4×200, where Armando Adrian, Connor Florczyk, Peyton Burnett and Jack Griffo were third in 1:40.58.
ESM featured Matt Young getting the victory in the mile in 4:38.48, running away from a field that included CBA’s Brendan Keeney, who was fourth in 4:56.93, while the Spartans’ Jim Kenyon got second place (2:49.18) to Bearkland (2:47.44) in the 1,000.
continued — Isaiah Brooks helped ESM take third place in the 55 hurdles in 8.30 seconds, with CBA’s Pat Carey fourth (8.73 seconds) and J-D’s Nolan Roosa (8.77 seconds) and Alex Carbacio in the fifth and sixth spots.
F-M had Eli Capri, in 10:43.51, beat out the Spartans’ Nick Berg (10:47.14) for fifth place in the 3,200-meter run, though ESM did take fifth in the 4×800 in 9:27.47, ahead of J-D (9:51.36) in seventh place. The Hornets’ Jack Griffo got fifth place in the 55 sprint in 6.97 seconds.
J-D’s Nolan Roosa nearly won his long jump, clearing 5’10”, but with fewer misses than C-NS’s George Reader as F-M’s Chibu Ezidegwu was fourth (5’6”) and Carey fifth for CBA. The Hornets’ Vincent Perry was third in the pole vault, clearing 10’6”
Also for the Red Rams, Jan Ramirez went 19’3 ¼” in the long jump and made it to fourth place, with Alex Le and Chris Blust fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault behind Perry. Henry Middleton tossed the shot put 37’11 ¾” to finish fifth, just ahead of Evan Baxter in seventh place. Joey Aremnta was sixth (40.11 seconds) in the 300 sprint.
