A new season is underway for the Baldwinsville boys swim team, and already it’s in the win column, breaking through last Wednesday night when it went to Mexico and recorded a 95-85 victory over the Tigers.
Much of the Bees’ success centered around the quartet of John Sidorakis, Nick Schultz, Alex Hiltbrand and Dan Watkins. Together, they put B’ville in front in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of one minute, 51.79 seconds to pull away from Mexico (1:54.25) and gain the full points.
Individually, Hiltbrand won twice more, edging the Tigers’ John Ocker, 24.50 seconds to 24.85, to take the 50 freestyle, while also winning the 100 butterfly in 1:00.20. Sidorakis, second (1:01.15) to Hiltbrand in the 100 fly, was victorious in the 200 individual medley, going 2:15.79 as teammate Jonathan Oad (2:18.95) made it a 1-2 finish for B’ville.
Dan Watkins was second in the 100 freestyle in 55.52 seconds to Mexico’s Dan Mullen (52.65 seconds). Schultz needed 1:10.02 to finish second to Ocker (1:08.25) in the 100 breaststroke, this after Evan Bohman won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.54 to the 1:05.91 posted by Mexico’s Dylan Long.
Ryan Hiltbrand took second (5:23.59) to Long (5:19.28) in the 500 freestyle right before the Bees captured the 200 freestyle relay, seeing Sidorakis, Watkins, Ryan App and Alex Hiltbrand go 1:39.28 to edge Mexico (1:38.49) by a few feet.
The Bees finished second (3:42.07) to Mexico (3:39.68) in the closing 400 freestyle relay despite the efforts of Ryan Hiltbrand, Brandon Formoza, Kevin Atkinson and John Licciardello, this after the Tigers’ diving star, Noah Galuzzo, broke his own pool record by amassing 374.85 points.
B’ville would be on the road again this Wednesday, taking on Fulton before a Dec. 22 home meet against West Genesee.
